Hi my 1992 import 160000klms 300zx z32 TT auto is using water the oil has gone brown so has the radiator water I'm in Townsville is there a Z mechanic up here or do I send it south It still performes very well and doesn't blow any smoke but has an oil leak around the valve covers Or do I pull the heads off my self Where do I get gasket kits an all the hoses needed in the engine bay Johnf150
ring around for new head gaskets, not sure off hand for the vg30dett, but normally they around around 120-150$ per head, so i would budget atleast 300 for a set of gaskets, should probably change both unless your sure which one is blown. most people generally agree that when doing head work, the engine needs to be pulled, if you can do it yourself you'll save alot, if not your looking at probably 1000 give or take for the job to be done. for the parts, repco and the like usually stock them, not sure if there is one in cairns but I like R&E auto parts, as they are much cheaoer and I have always done well with them for auto parts. If you decide to do it yourself, its just a matter of ringing around for ten minutes to find the best prices, If you get someone else to do it, you'll want to get some reviews on there workmanship first, atleast imo. Head gaskets from the US are $40ea. conceptzperformance.com Might wanna change your lower intake gaskets tho which are kinda expensive. You can re-use them but its up to you. I'd replace. Bout $75ea :/ If u don't have a crane and little to no mechanical experience, I'd highly suggest taking it to one of the Zed guru's in Qld as after buying all the tools necessary for the job, ie: Torque wrenches, Engine crane, bandaids you would be up for a pretty penny anyways.
