http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Nissan-3...?pt=AU_Cars&hash=item3cb9edbed6#ht_522wt_1139 Hi everyone just wanting peoples thoughts on this ebay special, seems reasonable, but in all my years, i've never heard of a timing belt just "slip" unless something else has happened. 2.5k buyout seems reasonable never the less, pictures dont show much, and considering the engine issues mentioned, I would have thought an engine shot how have been in there, suss perhaps. lastly, sorry if this isn't the place for this thread, was unsure, so figured with the damage mentioned, would suit it.
it will have been caused by a broken belt, collapsed ider or tensioner or oil/coolant contaminated belt which the teeth have then been stripped . The motor will need to come out, heads off, and reconditoned, valves replaced and hopefully no piston damage. It will require almost a full rebuild
The belt won't slip, but it can strip teeth or snap. At very least it will need a 100K kit put through it. I would budget to pull the motor and remove heads and replace valves.
If the damage is away from the pistons, which may very well be wishful thinking, wouldn't it be possible to do all the head work etc with the engine in? so far my experience with Z engines is limited to Z31 VG30DE's
ive done a incar head gasket change ,it was a real bitch to do particuly getting turbos back on.so i would say pull the donk it's not that hard.
This has been discussed many times in the past. Overwhelmingly people that have done it engine in, would not do so again.
$2500...if you can do the work yourself it's an ok buy. If you are outsourcing to a workshop, buy something which runs.
2nd, if you droped a new motor in there for a couple of grand youd have a nice zed, but if your paying a shop to do it, your 2k motor will quickly become 4-5 , which means you could have bought a running car for the same 6.5-7.5k and this is just the problems you are being told about dont forget, may be other issues as with any 20+++ year old car
true true, would much rather a nice shiny working Z32 even more so considering its my first :zlove: but thought it was worth a look, ty for your replies
