Hi, first post here. Im new to the forums having recently purchased a 92 2+2 TT manual. Import.

There are some small leak issues around the door seals and so the carpet in the passanger side foot well was a bit wet. Put the car in my shed, opened it up let it dry out.

Long story short, I had the carpet pealed back a bit to allow the heater to blow onto the underlay. Cranked up the temp and hi speed fan. That when i noticed a stream of water running down from under the dash into the footwell. Turned the heater off, stop the torrent.

So, at the risk of revealing my 300zx n00bness, what gives? I looked at the layout aircon system online. still thought id ask people in the know.

air con leak? heater leak? portal to fluidic space leaking into my car when heaters turned on?

Thanks for your help in advance.

The bad news is that your Heater Core has corroded and you will need to replace it.
In the mean time you can loop a length of heater hose between the two heater pipes located near the centre rear of the firewall between the engine and the firewall. Check SEARCH and look for heater bypass.
Make sure no water/coolant has contaminated your ECU and harness.

You can buy a replacement core from NATRAD in Canberra(it is from a 94 Mitsubishi Mirage, and will be much cheaper than an OEM item from NISSAN).

That is pretty amazing. i went through lots of hell trying to find a core for a z31. and you tell me I can get a z32 core just down the road.... (yes I live in Canberra) and no i don't need one for for my Z32 yet... but i am very inclined to go buy one, for later. Now, any further miracles about fitting it? I can now remove a z31 dash in my sleep, but it was truly a nightmare. can you suggest any z32 ideas????

More broadly a parts register would be a damn good thread, whre, price etc.

    Boooo. oh well.

    Thanks for the tip.

I havent had much time since i got the car to get to know it yet. SO, havent had much driving time.

Wouldnt a core leak radiator coolant all over my floor?

is it possible that the firewall has a leak? or grommet missing? driven around in the wet, kicked water into the cab and when i wacked on the heater released a reserve that had been sitting behind a valve somewhere? I know im shooting in the dark here. Its just that the water coming into the footwell was definately not coolant. Why i looked at heating / cooling schematic. Trying to find if it was independent of the engine somehow (different water system or something, as strange as that sounds), imagining a heater core leak from the outset i couldnt fathom why it wasnt coolant i was greated with.

    Any ideas?

In the mean time if started her up, waiting for it to get to temp then put the heater up flat stick.... see what happens?

    Thanks for your help

EDIT: Been running at temp for 15 minutes now. with heater at max. Nothing. very sad.

    ideas?

Obvious question. But your cooling system does actually have coolant in it? As in either green, red, yellow fluids?

It is possible for the coolant to exit the heater core, pool on the floor, and not actually have any colour. When our zed let go.... twice now =/ ... both times the coolant wasnt exactly coloured. More clear in spectrum. But not debating the fact, that it is indeed coolant!

For normal water to pool there. From a splash from under the body, i highly doubt it.

The only other option i can think of, is that your zed is a Targa top? And you have a blockage somewhere in the water drainage tubes that is making the water pool and subsequentially pool in the car.

Parts 91390M and 91390MA in the link supplied bellow.

There is a tech page regarding servicing these, to allow the water to drain properly.
