Im gonna go to semi's on the rear on my next tyre change,. try to tame the 400 ponies what prices have you guys paid for KU36 or the 595's or whatever they are called. ill be looking at a 245/40/18 i was hoping to get them under 200 each or am i dreaming?
From what I have found, Option 1 have the best prices on KU36, fitting and balancing prices at the bottom, although I did get a shop to match the tyre only price fitted and balanced. http://www.option1garage.com.au/NewTyres.htm
thanks for the link, the KU36 in the 235 is not a bad price it seems , ill see if i can haggle down to 200 no fit/balance with my tyre suppliers
aside from the price, how do you find the tyre Dino, ive driven alot of race cars on semi's but thats different. The zeds ive driven with semi's have been customers cars so i havent pushed them.
I was surprised that I got about 15,000km out of the set considering that I ran hillclimb and supersprints last year on them. Excellant grip for road use in both wet and dry, wear rating is 180 off memory. Sidewall is very soft, so pays to run them with a bit extra air. I wouldn't go less than a 40 profile or you are likely to get rim damage on bad roads. On track you can fairly easily get them too hot and then they go loose. With the improvement in the Aussie dollar I am surprised that they have jumped in price from what I paid last time (about $700 for 2 x 235/45/17 & 2 x 255/40/17). They are not as well balanced as say Direzzas or RE55s but I didn't have any issues with vibration or uneven wear. You will need to run less than 1 degree camber on both front and rear or you will chew them out real quick.
Yeah option 1 will be the cheapest you can get in brisbane... They often have specials on boostcruising etc Come in other sizes too Niall, 265 etc Not for less than 200 in 18's tho
I have KU36s on my z. they have been great. 265s on the rear and 245s on thre front. they are less than 5k km old. They seem to be wearing really well. You will have my car in a few weeks so you can see how they go. Pete
just make sure you get the right compound for street. I have gone thru a full set of falken RT615's in 3 months of daily driving/ 4000kms before. Were very good for grip but after a few heat cycles they were worse than cheap crap tyres and would just spin the rears all the time
I have the Federal 595's on my Z Niall, and you've driven that! Probably a bit too grippy for what you want I guess. The Federal semi-slick is the 595RS-R. Cook's Tyres at Sumner Park are a great place to buy tyres, but over here in the West (5 mins from my house). These guys are great for prices on regular rubber (been there a few times) but I doubt they'll better option 1's prices on KU36's... Hopefully they will tho
Chuck the 18" rims and get a set of 17", far better choice of rubber for them and noticably cheaper than the 18,19, 20 inch rubber the bigger the wheel the bigger the tyre costs 2ndly..... you get what you pay for, holding 400 ponies will take a decent tyre & not some half assed attempt at a donut but if your trying to skimp on the bucks then look at the toyo range as being 'top of the range' :rofl: I have recently fitted a set of 'MAYRUN' (chinese knock offs) to the rolla, they hang on real well but I doubt that I'll get any more than 15,000K's out of em........ pharken cheap rubber @ $160 for 4 tyres On the zed, I run the Federal semi-slick (595RS-R) and even tho our roads are generaly wet or damp and always as rough as, the federal is way out in front of previous rubber thats graced the zed ... this pair is the 2nd set and I had the 595's previously that did an excelent job, proir to that there's been kumo's (never again) and dunlops which I cant get any more..... :br:
