Sorry, cant remember the brand name - I have had them 3 years now. I do recall that the writing on the box and all inside it was in German. The eBay seller I used was mototekc and I just checked now and he is still in the business. With the HIDs on all four, driving down lonely deserted country roads after midnight is an absolute joy. The Maccas reference wasn't a joke, it was an observation. I am an amateur anthropologist.
Cool thanks looking up on ebay now I found another place that ships from Melbourne http://cgi.ebay.com.au/55W-H4-BI-XENON-HI-LO-HID-KIT-4300K-6000K-SLIM-BALLASTS-/390179227163?pt=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item5ad87e861b $139.90 for slim ballasts but free shipping or i think its $99.90 or something like that for just the normal ballasts. hahaha but you are right about maccas tho
Purchased these from member Tony321... or Tony123..... concerningly forgetful Never fitted, a bit old, so probably safe to assume from previous group buy. Will change them to Fog Light position and cancel order with Jaycar. They only had a listing 6000K's Will find a supplier for 35W 4300K's for hi and low beams then. Anybody recommend a supplier who does slimlline ballasts with the longer tails? Seeing a new "electronic" cylinderical ballast, about the size of a choke from a fluorescent light. Anybody tried these?
these are my results 55w 6000k from stock, at lest doubled the brightness there not as blue in person.
Same here. I've had OSBOM 4300K 35W in both High & Low beams for just on 4 years. Never a problem and visibility is fantastic.
when changing to HID's - are u just replacing the bulbs? .... yes, yes, I have no idea etc - just trying to learn..... and what sore of price are people paying?
HID's are a different system entirely to Halogens. They use what is known as a ballast (no need to go into technical details here, easy enough to look it up online if you're really interested that much), its a small box that the bulb now plugs into instead of the standard harness plug. The plug that normally plugged into the back of the halogen bulb now plugs into the ballast. A picture is worth a thousand words though so... And typical prices can range from $50 to $300 depending on brand, though some will swear by the cheaper stuff as being identical in performance to the top of the line stuff. So sometimes it tends to be a gamble either way. MoulaZX
I've got 6000K in low beams and love them! Also got some 6000K's for high beams. If i had my time again I would go for the 4300k's though. Bit too blue, but looks hot
Cheap knockoffs produce inferior light. Pretty simple really... a $30 ebay kit is not the same as a reputable $300 kit. HIDs are not all made equal. There's a lot of blanket statements in here claiming HIDs are xx% better than stock but it's not always true. I've tried rubbish kits and 4300k, 6000k, 12000k from the crappy brands ALL look the same. Not to mention the light is weak and didn't improve over stock at all.
Oh thats just bollocks dude, my kits, 3 of them, are "cheap knockoffs" and they will near enough burn your friggin retinas out of your head. In actual fact, Id say they are TOO bright!!! What exactly determines a "reputable" kit then? What?? Price? Brand? I have compared my "cheap knockoffs" setups to "reputable" kits priced at 700$+! Along with several OEM systems on high end Beemers and VW's and mine are significantly brighter for the same temperature and Im willing to bet at a mere fraction of the cost. Sorry, its not that cut and dried!!! L8r E
That said, I too bought some cheap China HID's and both ballasts were dodgy (flashing & one would turn off after a few seconds). I sent them back, yet the seller said they never received them. I won't risk that mistake again. I still believe you get what you pay for.
Guys just go to Jaycar and get the set for $99, if they go wrong, take them back for a refund... easy
