hey guys, need to do some work on my brakes, which will involve removing the brake booster drum....couple of questions

    1) is it possible to remove the drum without removing the master cylinder from the car completely

    2) removing the retaining pin from the brake pedal, is there a easy way to do this, last time i did it i broke the pin, but it didnt matter that time as it wasd a wreck, this time its not.....do you just replace it with a split pin or does it need to be a specialised pin

I dunno M8, it looks like a pretty epic effort to get the booster out and leave the MC still atacheced to its lines.
Suck it up m8 and remove the MC and bleed after.

That litte clip is an "R" clip. The look pretty much like an R hence the name and just push on like a tiny bonnet pin.
If you could get your fingerts around the round end it will come off by hand easily.
Nothing more that a bit of stiff wire bent into a little hook to remove or some needle nosed pliers on the ROUND end!!!!.
You must have been pretty brutal on it to break the sucker!!!
Yeah, a split-pin will be just fine.

thank you very much! official thanks given.....

yeah i know its going to be a f around, was just vainly hoping there could be a easier way than what appears......i may do it in conjunction with a plenum pull (which the car is due for, never had one) which may give me more access........

    Easy as M8
sadly, there not a lot easy abou these things under the bonnet!
Id say youll be doing urself a big favour by doing it along with the plenum pull tho. Wise move in my view!
    Good luck champ.

Hi Jinxed superkart is right there is no easy way of doing it. After you take the r clip out you need to push the pin out it, sounds easy but after half an hour mine would not come out. The reason is there is a little plastic piece on the end of the pin which spreads out to stop the pin from working it way out if the r clip was not there!!!!!! All you need to do is pinch it closed and then push the pin through. Sounds easy don't it. good luck oh you will need to undo the 4 nuts on the back of the booster as well. Hope this helps. Cheers Mark

yeah i had the whole dash out of the first one that i removed the pedal from, and it was still difficult, so it s going to be hard work laying on my back looking up under the dash......

i think i will also remove the drivers seat for extra room and so i dont break my back in the process.....

Good idea on removing the seat. For the sake of 4 bolts and an electric seat connector... its silly not to.
I've got to attempt this job some time with my NA, I've developed a rather muscly leg over the years with stop-start commuting traffic and a busted booster :zlove:
