    Moo Shocking...

I just ripped the factory spoiler off my Zed, there were some difficulties, but after 2 long hours, I got the spoiler off, cleaned all the rubber adhesive crap off of it, all the dirt, taped up all the holes, and put it under a car cover, awaiting welding.

Personally, I don't have the uhh.. Skills to weld the holes up and make it look like it's a smooth finish, and didn't want to even think about trying something like that.. (I wouldn't have the heart to bring a hot flame to my baby.. :p)

I was wondering, who would people recommend in the way of panel beating in W.A, I've been told a couple of shops NOT to go to, but none so far of what shops to go to..

I shall be posting pics soon of the arse end of my Z. :zlove:

+1, i would love to do mine but i have a feeling mine has a little too much rust damage for me to repair it after i take the spoiler off.

not to hijack the thread or anything (just dont feel it appropriate to create a thread about the same sort of thing) but is there ever "too much" rust to justify fixing it?

and as per origonal poster, where is the best panel beater in WA to take it in order for it to get fixed?

    :) cheers

    resident painter actually :p

Just so you guys know, its never as simple as welding the holes, primering, then painting.

The holes have to be welded, then ground down, welding warps the metal as its fairly thin so it will need to be bogged up and blocked strait, then we can primer it, your entire hatch will need to be resprayed.

edit : also, window doesn't need to come out but it just makes the painting stage a tad easier.

    oops my bad

So isn't just easier to glass and bog it?

Nah you will get a better result by welding up the holes, if you just just to bog them and fiberglass it will cause sink back and when you paint it you will have rings around the area where the bog is. welding them is the only proper option.

I thought my boot would be rusted also, turns out it was just the metal part in the wing that was rusted, the boot lid had no rust what so ever.
You might find it would be the same as yours. :)
If you do decide to rip it off, good luck, and I hope you're as lucky as I am to see a non-rusted boot. :D

lol unfortunately not so lucky, the sides of my spoiler are freying off to the sides and i can see my hatch underneath... its all bubbly from the water being trapped underneath and i can see a fair amount of rust spots. also underneath the hatch inside the car the bolts that hold the hatch on are COVERED literally covered in rust from the bolt to the outside of the area where the bolt goes into the hatch. so....... not so lucky lol. thats why i asked is there ever "too much" rust :)

ahwell... hopefully Vizard can bash it till the sense comes back to it :p

I had that same problem too...! :p
I was looking, and, turns out what I thought was rust was the corroded rubber adhesive mixed with rust in the spoiler, and dirt. The bolts were rusted over the top also, to the point where I had to drill them out (seized and rusted FTL).

    If it is 110% the rust, I got a quote from a panel beater with really bad rust issues, and no rust issues;
    WITH rust $700
    WITHOUT rust $580

That's a vague idea on the prices in W.A, to remove the spoiler, fibre glass and metal up the bad parts (I'm not a panel beater I don't know technical terms :p) and if you have the infill panel, fit that too. :) If you don't have the infill panel, I don't think the prices vary that much.

hmmm $700 with rust ey. ill see what price Vizard comes back to me with and hopefully he can swing me a deal cos hes like totally awesome and ... stuff lol.

but if i have to pay that much i guess i will have to :p might be a little bit more for me as ill probably get him to do the modifications i want done to the hatch at the same time :p

Holy **** that's expensive... Just to fill some little holes? Wow.

I want to get this done as well as shave my side indicators... May as well ship in some USDM fenders...

I got Bernie from APP to do mine. He welded the side indicators up too and installed the 370 ones.

It was included in my respray, the 2nd time!
He'll be doing my new rear bar and roof spoiler soon too.
You'll find you'll have to book in well in advance though. Good sign I suppose.
