I need to replace the hose that runs out of the bottom of the reservoir to the power steering pump. Do I need to buy Nissan or can I use any old generic hose for this?? I doesn't look special but it does have the OEM bend in it.

you can use generic power steer hose from an auto shop, the bend is just enough that it can do it without kinking

Similar question- the hose that goes to the rack, any suggestions as to sources for the hose that goes to the rack. Nissan is quoting $286 for OEM and Pitek /Enzed are talking 200- supply of hose only in Canberra.

thats what your lookingj at really, that high pressure hose is an important one and prone to leak, ive had them done before for under 200.

Ive got a spare one here that i could get done for you and send down on exchange, reduce down time?

Picked up a length at kwik-fit ($25), seemed to do the job. Now one last oil leak to deal with.......from the diff I believe. Thought it would be HICAS but had a closer look and doesn't look like power steering fluid:confused: Is dropping a lot of oil though so have to address it ASAP.

Hey man, can you show me a photo of the actual hose replaced and the replacement hose you used? Might be the same culprit to my leaking PS fluid...

    It was this one:

I went to Nissan and they said they would need to get it from Japan. Auto 1 and Supercrap had nothing, so I went to Kwik-fit and they cut me off a length ($25). Bit fiddly to get to. Have to remove the two large air intake piping that sits above it (that bit is easy), getting the bottom one back on after the job was done was a bit tricky. I had to cut the hose clamp off (Dremel) the hose where it joins the power steering pump as just couldn't get any tools in there to loosen it (just bought a couple new clamps with the hose). Job took a couple of hours and was a bit messy. Power steering fluid spills out when you remove the hose from the reserver . I just put some sheets of cardboard down with some old towels on top to catch it. You can also get a good look at alot of the hoses once the piping has been removed so you might be able to spot where your leak is coming from. Another possible culprit is this one:

There's a good article on how to fix it here:http://tech.aus300zx.com/powersteer/Leaking_power_steering.doc

    Hi Briz,

I am currently replacing the same hose on my Z.

Wondering is there any place other than 'quick-fit' where i can purchase this replacement ? Also where did you buy the new clamps ?

    Cheers mate !

Probably Pirtek, a quick google for hydraulic hoses will bring up some options. Maybe these? http://www.hoses.com.au/

    Get it from coz/z1

It's called a j hose don't think anyone has mentioned it by name, if not in a rush get it from the us that way there is no chance of linking or warping later one, do it right the first time

They are only about $50 from nissan locally, usually they have stock in the warehouse and you can have it the next day.
