hi guys im after a lil advice. I have a 1989 import tt with adjustable coilovers and well we have adjusted them to improve spring rate because the ride was really stiff. It now seems the front end is lower. Im not sure on the brand of the coilovers. So the question is what to do leave it as it is or stiffen it back up and cop the rough ride or leave it?

i'm guessing you can't change the length of the shock body itself?

what model coilovers? cheaper ones only let you adjust the springs and it's not an ideal setup. if you give the spring more length to travel then yes it will soften the ride but also lower it.

do the shocks have adjustabe dampner and rebound or similar you may be able to stiffen teh spring up and soften the dampner a little. not an ideal fix but may see you through to softer rate springs.

I would say you've pulled the preload out of the spring and that's why it's lower. Being shorter in stroke length now would cause it to bottom out making the ride harsh. If the spring rate was too high it would have had a stiff ride before adjustment anyway.

hmmm well we put em back up we didnt have our 100 mm clearance how it was. It's much better now i have no idea what brand of springs they are or if the have any other kinds of adjustment but fingers crossed they are ok now thanks boys

It sounds like you adjusted the ride height by adjusting the locknuts on the outside of the dampner.
If you can adjust the dampening, it is done on the top of the dampner rod (on top of the shock towers).

Dampner adjustment on mine is a small screw down the shock spindle/spear on the strut tower. I am pretty sure I have seen pics of shocks with an adjustment knob towards the base of the shock.

Yes you're correct, I should have included the word "generally".

hey guys, i assume u mean the bolts on the top of the suspension towers.
i have included a few pics and understand now why a mechanic could make so much money off someone who owns a 300zx.

just out of curiousity, do i tighten or loosen these bolts to increase shock rate, we figured out that adjusting the coilovers (spring) was a bad idea.

Non-adjustable, do not touch anything on top of your coilovers.

Looks like you're stuck with changing the spring platform height for preload only.
