Thought I may do something useful with my time, and start a thread on what slightly more obscure item can come in very hady for your car. Everybody has jumper leads these dayss, and most people carry small kits including jacks and the like, but im certein there are more objects we should be putting in our kits. If you know of something really handy for fixing a ca, thats not normally in a fix-it kit put it down on here, as well as its uses. Ill start:

    1) Duct Tape - My power steering pump bearing died recently. When I started my Zed yesterday I heard a big rattle. Stupid bearing had pushed my belt forward and eaten my lower radiator hose. It was only a small hose, but it was leaking sure enough. Luckily I had duct tape. 2 or 3 meters later I had tigly wrapped the hose up. Hasnt leaked since, but I WILL be getting another hose.

8mm, 12mm, 14mm sockets and spanner (with extension)
Small multi-purpose screwdriver (phillips and flat)
    Multimeter and leads
    ECU-talk

This wil get you out of most issues on the roadside.

Heater core by-pass hose is handy for a Zed kit too.

It should be noted also that prevention is the best cure. Roadside diagnosis will be a damn-sight better than having a RACV /NRMA roadside assistance bloke scratching his head under your bonnet for hours...

Once you replace most things like heater core, rad hoses, PTU etc etc, the most bothersome roadside breakdown will be a sensor failing, broken wiring or something else that is relatively non-threatening. Most of these things will show signs of failure before it is too late (erratic idle, leaking fluids, etc).

One of those long claw tools, or magnet tools, the claw is best for zeds i find as there is too many things for the magnet to stick on on the way to the bottom

Edit - A rag, don't want to have to wipe your hands on your best shirt

Good for calling friends or family or work to tell 'em that you have car troubles, googling the nearest towing service and calling them, googling "how to" and troubleshooting questions, GPS and watching youtube while you wait by the side of the road.

A bible (of your religious choice ofcourse) ;)

    Use 1
Praying to the GOD of your religious choice, to make this heathen car go so I can get it home

    Use 2
tearing the pages out so a small fire can be lit, thus burning the devil (of your religious choice ofcourse)

Agree. I have small cheap arse tool kit in the car with sockets, screwdrivers etc. Got me out of trouble plenty of times in the EH.

Buy an el cheapo so if your car gets broken into, they're not steeling your kincrome gear.

Have that exact tool kit in my car, its awesome for a cheapy, and it has a lifetime warranty, unfortunately not for me losing bits from it though
