Has anyone had this problem or can tell me how to get my hands on a good used unit. Got a quote of around $900 to repair just the compressor and thats with it out of the car already. Told the unit would need to be backflushed and regassed and thats not included in the $900 either.
It is not overly common but it does happen here and there. I have a few good ones laying around, Pm me or give me a call dring business hours for a price etc.
Can i ask what year your Z is. I ordreed a "remanufactured" one from US, they sent me wrong one, right one now hopefully on way, so looking to onsell the "wrong one". by way of background, my car is a 90 Jspec , has Hitachi Mj ? 371 compressor. Hoses at right angles , sort of reverse L. Oz spec and later seem to have a different compressor, the one i got sent, where the 'big hoses' are very close to each other, on non clutch end. They are unpleasant to get off, but you can do it yourself. need to drop sway bar to get enuf room to get it out. So if what i giot fits, happy to onsell at cost to me- $270 plus postage.
why on earth would you be going from the bottom to get the ac out?? if your looking for na units i have a couple here in good working cond,MUCH cheaper than reconditioned
i had 3 AC compressors seize on me (one was the original and 2 were second hand), the 3rd time i ordered a new one from nippon air parts for about $500 i think and i have had no problems with the Zeds AC since
My compressor Hitachi Mj seized. I got a remanufactured one in Perth for $350. There was a grey residue thru the system which was oil mixed with metal dust from the compressor so had to remove the condenser, evaporator and all the pipes and flush with flushing solvent otherwise the replacement compressor would have been damaged. Not sure if you can flush the system with the evaporator in place. Also replaced the dryer and TX valve and all the O-rings. The correct material for the O-rings is compacted nitrile, colour green for identification. To remove the evaporator, the dashboard has to come out.
