Hey guys hope someone can help me with this one pretty quick coz my Z is my daily drive. When i insert my key into my driver side door and turn it it feels loose and travels alot further than it should, and i cant lock or unlock the car from that side, i pulled the door trim off and tried to have a look at what was going on and realised that i couldnt even lock it from the inside of the car, there is a pulley that runs from the inside door handle to an isolating rod covered by a rubber sleeve and it doesnt move far enough to lock the door. so if any one could help me out with those two problems i would really appreciate it. Cheers
there must be a broken component in the back of the lock (the twist plate) for the lock to turn but remain in the lock position and for the inside lock not to lock It must of broken when the vehicle was in the lock position doe the above to occur the twist plate must be stuck which would be why it wont lock from the inside unhook the rod off the back of the lock and test to see if it works the inner part of the door operates when moving that rod - (its hard to get at) if it does it confirms your lock is stuffed This is only a stab in the dark but most likely based on what your saying Cheers
to clarify further on the lock the end of the barrel that connects to the twisting plate it is the weak point in the lock it can break/ weaken over time - particularly if someone is trying to hold the lock closed from the inside while you try to turn the lock - it is the part that is likely to give way not saying you did this - just saying why they get weak over a long time
If you still have your door trim off, look through your door frame. Focus specifically on the inside of the outer door handle at the lock barrel. There should be a transparent/yellow plastic fitting with a yellow clip fitted to the back of the lock barrel, from which the locking rod runs to your door lock. Quite common for these to break, and a real PITA to replace- a little less for a 2+2. That is as far a my experience extends with door lock failure. The diagram I have doesn't show in detail a full outlay of the locking mechanism. Exercise caution when using your power window also. A broken clip can cause the locking rod to fall in the path of the window track, and the outcome isnt pleasant.
is it stuck or not stuck - you said its doesnt work Yeh I thought of that -it was obvious to start there - if the inside lock is free and doesnt work then what you said is spot on! But i got the impression from his post that he could not move the lock at all on the inside -(stuck) if so - then it means it must be connected and in the lock itself! so the magic question is - is the inside door lock stuck or not?
Not worth fixing IMO, get a remote central lock kit fitted. Probably end up cheaper than getting someone to fix that lock which just makes theft easier for thieves.
the door wont lock of unlock with the key from the outside, and it wont lock using the inside mechanism, sorry if i didnt make that clear
Yeah mine did that too. Bit snapped from back of the keyhole. In fact both my locks now do it... -_-' Solution: Remote Central locking kit.
