So i found a rare uncut 300zx key.

the issue is, its 362 AUD.

Is it really worth that much!? Would anybody else pay that without another thought of the price?

Depends on how nice your zed is :p Im a perfectionist so I would, using a steel key in the zed would just feel dirty! :D

You would be crazy to pay that for a key. By the way can you please send a link to where it is? :)

Better question is how do you feel when the locksmith ****s your $362 key???

    Personally..... NO

What does a titanium key do that a 'valet' key (or duplicate cut key), doesn't do.... NOTHING

I would put the $362 into one of the many mods that would be an actual improvement on the zed.

I participated in a group buy a few years ago for a replica (but titanium, I think) key. My lock smith did stuff up the key :( So now I still have my trusty steel one.

That is just the thing, this car is going to be a perfect 300zx. in the hope they will become a collector item.

the car is going to have all the rare and hard to get bits.
I have the orginal Valet key, and the black plastic one.
I dont mind keeping this in storage.
The car doesnt need much at the moment, just a few small things here and there. flare, air pump, maybe stock head unit and surround.

EvZ: isnt it possable to give the locksmith the code on your orginal key and they can replicate that?

If you want it, then buy it. No different to spending $2K on number plates, which many people do. I'd suggest shopping around very carefully for a locksmith to cut the key. Some original keys have a number stamped on them which is the cutting code, the locksmith can cut from this rather than use a worn key, not sure if Z keys have this tho.

but dont forget.... even if u hav the key cut from this code its very likely after 20 or so years the inside of the barrel has worn away along with the key so theres a chance it may not work well... i had this problem with my camary i hav a worn as key so i got a new one cut and the new one dosnt work to well and takes some wiggleing around and force to turn it but the old worn away key works perfect lol

I've got an uncut Ti :D
I'm gonna keep it a collector's item though, maybe buy an already cut Ti key set down the line... seems such a waste to cut this one

That sure sounds like a lot of money. I've bought heaps of 'Z collector' stuff - my latest great find was an absolutely mint 1999 Z sales brochure (Japanese of course) - I've now got them all from '89 to 2000. In fact I once bought a titainium blank from Nissan spare parts - $42 in 1998. So if they're now worth over $300, I wish I'd bought a few more!!!

    Mate,

Just take it down to your local locksmith and get it cut based on the original. The original key ain't going to be worn enough to make it a risk - if the original works in the Z, so will the other. Trust me. I did it with a genuine blank 3 weeks ago.

It only really starts going south when you're trying to cut a copy from really worn original keys made from cheap metal or when the young lad at Mr Minit is stoned.

My locksmith is a 70 something year old myopic shoe repair / clothing alterations / key cutter / locksmith and he did a perfect job.

Get the locksmith to cut it off the number on your original key. Comes out like new. I've had it done with a titanium key and a new OEM black key. And don't tell the locksmith it's titanium, they get funny about putting it in their expensive machine :p

All these uncut titanium keys are most likely the reproductions done for GB's a few years ago. Not worth anywhere near $400 imo :p Silly people :p
