is it just me or is there a shit load of room with a 2jz?

while part of me can appreciate the work etc gone into a conversion like this, the rest of me sees more ammo for the anti VG and supra crowds.

That being said it was a NA VG and if you are going to swap an engine why not go all the way. I wonder about the weight foward of the front wheels with an inline 6 alothough a 2jz is probably heaps lighter than our engines.

its a straight 6....wat do you expect? :S still dont change the fact 300's chop supra's :) while the engines may be lighter... arnt supras lighter then 300's? so wouldn't the weight of the 300 be a downgrade compared to a vg... or you think the loss off weight in the engine compartment would make up for it? :S

I would love to do this conversion! I think the 2JZ is the most responsive straight 6 engine for bolt on performance modifications. I'd also like to know how hard it would be to squeeze in the Supra Getrag 6spd.

300's can and do chop supras, i know this myself since i chopped quite a few.
But theres probably more supras out there that chop 300s than there is 300s chopping supras.

However there is no denying the 2jz makes more torque straight out of the box than the vg.
I love the VG, but you gotta admit, theres something appealing about the ability to touch the ground with ya hand in the engine bay of z32.

Even if the vg and 2jz were 100% exactly the same performance wise, the 2jz will always come out on top due to simplicity, and only needing 1 of everything rather than 2 of everything, so theres the cost factor too, along with the part availability factor.

and yes, theres no need for the tired 'with the amount of money you spent swapping the 2jz you could've built a massive vg etc'

we know. but you cant build space!

+1 I get sick of people with this sort of attitude, especially with a Z, nits not about money and what you could of done. Hell the money we sink into our Z could get us a lovely commodore/falcon or imagine the sort of old school english ride, mini, escort, MG no not a cortina.

In the end its not about how much or even how we spend it its about us enjoying our own piece of Z heaven.

If you're worried about having two of everything then whey not just drop a VQ30det in, you'll keep a decent weight distribution not to mention you've got a newer and most likely lighter motor as well. Then again if your going to go to the trouble of shoehorning a 2j in may as well just go for LS whatever...

    2JZ is lighter?

Where does this come from? They are a truck engine, well the block is anyway, check the facts boys.

sorry I was not trying to state it as a fact just more a thought aloud seeing as the VG weighs the proverbial ton, (again don't take that literally) I was guessing that most engines are lighter. and the fact they are how many years newer???

2~3 years? came out in the mark 4 supras which started in 93... they arent that much newer...

EDIT: they were in the soarers too weren't they, in NA form? they came out like 91...

VG isn't really that heavy... The block is tiny, heads are pretty light. 2J would def. be heavier.

Anyone who purposely puts more weight ahead of the front axel HAS ROCKS IN THEIR HEAD. Its already nose heavy. Barge alert

If you LIKE this you have rocks in your head.

Still going with the toyota engine swap theme what about a 3SGTE then? the JTCC Supras have these instead of the 2J I think, now that would have to decrease weight and allow you to mount the engine a lot closer to the fire wall, you could also have a proper v mount intercooler and radiator setup

not saying they're crap, i know nothing about them.... BUT surely its going backwards a bit if you're gonna stick one in a relatively heavy car like the zed?

  20. Anti

    Anti 14.7 x 14.7 = 44.1

Been thinking about the VG... It's heavier than a VQ45, takes out a lot of space in the engine bay, is expensive to modify for big horsepower and is labor intensive for things like turbo work as the whole engine has to come out...
What about the 4.0 straight 6 turbo from the XR6T? I'd never put Ford in my car, but I've heard they're excellent for modding up - FMIC and higher boost can net something like ~350 horses IIRC.
