I hope. My car has been sitting for a month while i have tinkered doing the timing belt e.c.t. slowly slowly. It's all back together and i have counted the teeth between the marks and have the marks alinged. Checked this umpteen times to be 100% sure. I also replaced the cam shaft seals. Turning the crank by hand ( a million times to try to lign all the marks up l.o.l eventuly relised it would take a year of turning to lign them all up ) and defiantly no noises of valves hitting pistons e.c.t . I started it up and i get a noise like the lifters haven;t got the oil up to them. Would pulling the caps off the end of the cams and thus the oil behind the caps runs out make it take longer for the oil to get up into the lifter/cam area ?. Sure hope this is the case. it has always had a valve tick when cold on start up until the oil gets up. I also left all the cam belt covers off so i suppose this could make me hear noises more but it has me worried. Any advice would be appreciatted.
    Cheers Dave:confused:

IB and I are presently servicing lifters. We have recently diss-ssembled them, cleaned them using an Ultrasonic cleaner filled with Yamaha Carby Cleaner Dip and fortunately they now look like new. We will reassemble sometime soon. What I found interesting is just how many of the lifters were so heavily varnished that they were stuck in the closed position. I suspect you have several that are stuck closed and this is why they are so damn noisey. They can only be unstuck by removal from motor and diss-assembly as we have done.

Lesson learnt is to keep the oil clean (use full synthetic and change at 5000km) and when presented with the opportunity definitely remove lifters and give them a full service.

    Cheers

I think you should be alright. I did my 100k service over the space of a month and a half, during which time pretty much all of the oil well and truly drained into the sump.

It had a huge amount of lifter noise on initial start-up, but after about 5km of driving it went away as oil eventually found its way into the lifters.

Thanks all . Especially Bryan at Brytech. It's all sorted.Wow it sounded terrible but turns out as posted that it just took a hell of a long while to get the oil into the lifters because they have been sitting so long and also needs a clean due to age. Another for the to do list by the look of it. I can't really complain as seems i have not had that much trouble with this car compared to some ( like to keep it that way ) and only little things. It funny how just sitting in it brings a smile to my face let alone taking it for a accasional spin.
    Cheers Dave
