ok this may have bein already writen up SORRY... as im moving to a bigger town at the end of this year and i em planning on starting up drifting well im quiet serious about it.. well i have a DD 300zx and love the unique body shape of them is it possiable for them to be good drifters just as good as s13's and just as light..my idea is to buy a pretty sh%t conditon 300zx and strip it to bare nothing put a roll cage in and one seat. replace motor with a SR20DET because of the weight..would this work as a strictly track car and also would i have to go with a Twin turbo model because of the gear box diff and tail shaft would be able the handle the power unlike the NA version...im really serious about it dont wont to be like every other person on the track with skilines ans silvia's

The NA,s have a skyline diff in them 4.11Ratio and the gearbox will handel a sr20 no swett, You wont get it as light as a silvia and they are a good drift car if done right, Look on U-tube, some crazy japs with them.

i hear the NA and TT have the same strength diff and gearbox.

same gear ratios on gearbox. but different on the diff.

also with the NA setup it hasnt got hicas to worry about.

For your idea na z32 will do fine. But you wouldd best upgrade the brakes. Tail shaft will néed to be custom made. You can use Na gearbox behind the sr. But seriously why? Vg is reasonably light, it's short and z32 has nice weight center. So I would buy a tt z32 lighten it. Roll cage. Coilovers shim the diff and upgrade the coolers. Then skid the arse out of it. Oh and cooling system

you guys have convinced me 300zx drift project end of this year you'll see it up on build thread...never new that about the NA not having hicas thats sweet

If anything, LS1 it! No need to change the tail shaft as far as I know.

I'm running TT with hicas eliminated, this way I have rear toe adjustment. The R230 is doing sweet with the lack of weight in the car. Running a lightweight flywheel but going to a stock one to maintain rotating mass for better second gear launches and torque. I tend to lose revs a bit. I'm in the middle of a build at the moment but won't be posting anything until it's done.

Anyway, good to see another Zedder getting serious about drifting!

Become a fan!... or like it, what ever the hell facebook calls it now.

yea breaks upgrade is what a had in mind as well...i new some one would say that to keep the Vq motor the only reason is is because after working on the turbo motor its a pain in the ass if somethin went wrong on the day and needed a quick fix on Sr20det it would be only a hand lengh away instead on pulling the motor out lol...i wouldnt use a NA for drifting so much easyier with a turbo motor..and also i heard the 300zx motors are quiet heavy so to lighten the car lighter motor would help

There's a 15 year old competing in our group in Brisbane and he is awesome. Fully sponsored R32!
I still wouldn't worry about spending money where it isn't needed yet. Get recognised first and put your feelers out for some business. Let them pay for your new engine! :p

I'm sticking with my VG at the moment because as a mate said to me, ya can't wine on a beer budget...though these days it would seem to be the complete opposite! It drives well, has the power it needs and is very progessive predictable as it slides.

yeah stick with the VG man its great with the car lightened heaps. this pic of mine is a few months old so there's more done to it now. i've taken a huge ammount of weight out from the car to use for drift and circuit and its very tail happy in all gears :D

I'm going with silver interior too! :D
Alloy dash and no interior trim what so ever though.

Very tidy, I like it. :)

If you're going to drift a zed, drift a zed. Don't make it something it's not by swapping out the motor with a v8

Who said v8. That's mind bottling.
Your age is sweet I just wish I had the internetsnd freedom of knowledge when I was 16. My car is a drift car but it's not a 300. Good luck
