Cant decide which intercooler type to go (yes the age old SMIC V FMIC question) will be running forged intenals, ams manis, GT28R, Nismo 555 Injector and twin air intake. I have Trust SMICs and was going to get one of these instead: Link Now worried about lag and starting to think I should stick with the SMICs, what sort of lag would I expect and how annoying/noticable/cringeworthy will it make my zed when its finally back on the road? Sick of fence sitting and want to make a final decision
Match FMIC or SMIC with your front bar... lol Depends on what you got Or what you can get for a good price... Or just get both!
Look is important Do have Greddy front bar to go on, they do look good with a nasty FMIC. However the thought of a FMIC, Oil Cooler, Radiator all trying to use the same air worries me... I know they say FMICs are Ok aslong as the cooling system is up to scratch (and mine will be) still im nervous.
My TT uses a similar FMIC (possibly the same) and used to work with stock radiator and temps never went passed mid 80's on consult - I have upgraded to a mishimoto twin pass rad just to reduce the likelihood of overheating tho.
I ran 14psi for five years very similar FMIC (see garage for pic) and in QLD (Brisbane) and never had any sign of heat problems.
front V's side argument aside....... One thing thats generaly overlooked is the front clip design itself..... IE: The Bomex clip suits the SMIC setup due to its larger side intake ducting but offers only a small area for a FMIC in comparision to others... The AB-FLUG style is the opposite, better suited to a FMIC than side coolers Taking the clips actual design and relitave air space for either cooler setup would be high on my consideration list. In either case the correct mounting and subsquent additional ducting to send the used air away cleanly should only benifit a good setup even more. Kingy
I had the very same FMIC installed ages ago - the same pics were used in ads placed on this forum, but without the watermarks. Pipe-length and shape were not clearly thought out during design & the frontbar had to be mutilated - same with the reo-bar. If those are genuine Trust SMICs, stick with them.
Benny C had Trust SMIC and changed them for japtech's I think... Trusts were resticting boost and airflow with similar mods...
Correct Mikey. going from the Trust SMIC's to another breed of Huge Mo-Fo SMIC's (basically the same as Japteks), i gained 2psi instantly due to the pressure drop i was getting from the Trust's. This pressure drop was up around the 20psi mark i might add, and i didn't measure any pressure drop when i was running lower boost, so i can't comment on lower PSI pressure drops between the two. My advice would be keep your current coolers till you get your zed up and running and see how it performs, and if you wanted to, check what pressure drop you're getting and if it's excessive or you're not happy with them, then upgrade them. all that's involved is pulling your front bar off again and plumbing the replacement items back in - which is something you can do at any stage of your build.
SHAMPOO IS BETTER I GO ON AND CLEAN THE HAIR!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :br: I have one of these intercoolers with a Greddy bar too, no problems with temp and i use the side inlets for my twin pods and brake ducts. SHAMPOO IS BETTER I GO ON AND CLEAN THE HAIR!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :br:
Its an Adam Sandler reference, where he is having a stupid argument with himself about which is better, shampoo or conditioner. I thought it was quiet witty actually. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G1PllrfeiVw&feature=related STOP LOOKING AT ME SWANS !
