If your cats are gutted, you definitely don't need them.

IMHO, I reckon those sensors were a wild idea by Nissan engineers. You don't see that setup on anything else.

They will let you know if your cats are overheating, it will usually mean one or two cylinders arn't firing and excess fuel is going to the cats.

Sorry to hijack the thread a little, but what do these sensors do if an over temperature is measured?

Is there a warning light on the dash or do they feed the ecu or something?

Any way of testing that they are still good?

I have heard of catalitic converters getting hot enough to set fire to the carpet inside the car, so if possible I think that I would like em to work.

    Cheers.

    unlike some other sensors....

the sensors in the CATS are not monitored by the ECU and do not affect the function of the car or influence its performance. All they do is make a little light flash on your dash if your CATS get hot. Many zeds have them disconnected when they fit new or highflow CATS (mine are disconnected).

    Cheers

I've been wondering if they could be hooked up to a temperature gauge to give EGT (Exhaust Gas Temperature)?

I wouldn't worry, none of us can read anyway

When I put my reverse EL gauges in, I rewired my Low Fuel warning light to the cat temp sensor light, since the EL gauges cover the old position of the low fuel light.

No need to discuss why the cat temp sensors are not required by me any more, but I an sure a lot of you can guess.
