interested on how lost souls bonnet was made...like progress pics...but ZX1990's is great...simple but effective...although just wondering...wouldnt a lip (even a small on but not as drastics as boost junkies) on ZX1990's help with a vacuum with hot air?
Thanks guys. No progress pics, I did this about 8 or 9 years ago ... basically cut a hole to accept the Subaru vent then pop riveted the vent to the bonnet then fiber glass cloth then filler and paint. The vent opening is at the front edge of the Cam Bely Covers and works really well at venting the hot air from the Radiator ... I credit the vent in helping to keep the average coolant temp to 74'c , I have yet to see over 80'c, saw this during a 30min 3rd thrash in the hills.
bonnet vent I was in a hurry and we just cut a hole and stuck in an evo vent. Nigel (lostsoulnz) rightly points out should have a lip to reduce pressure pre vent.
i looked for one of those URAS vents for ages and everyone always conveniently just seemed to not stock them anymore. i found out a little while ago they don't sit right on the zed bonnets and you have to do a bit of tricky slicing and dicing to sit properly. pity because that one was the perfect dimensions where as others were either way too big or too small.
I got warned for that last week and defected because it was fibreglass.:lame: Funny this was that I've already made arrangements to fit a stock bonnet and was heading to the gold coast to drop the car to ztoy...
I hate to add this to the thread, as it might change the direction, but just because a police officer defects you, does not mean something is illegal. Most of the time, they won't know the ADRs or even the law 100%, after-all they aren't perfect. Once upon a time I got a defect for a FMIC and my vented bonnet. On inspection by Queensland Transport, the FMIC was perfectly OK, and also, they certified my bonnet as fine. My vents were totally open and slightly biased to the rear. Incidentally the bonnet is for sale, and pics are up in my garage if you want to see it for comparisons etc.
You could always try mounting it from the underside of the bonnet, which is what I plan on doing with mine in the near future. Makes for a cleaner install.
this might sound like a dumb question with your exposed vented bonnets what if it rains and leaks into engine bay any possible damage to engine bits ??? just curious
Me personally, I drove in the heaviest of rain without issue. If I had to park the car in the rain, I used a Targa cover to protect the engine.
dont quote me on this, but once the engine is at operating temperature any water in the engine bay should evaporate before it pools and causes an issue or gets into any connectors........ if the cars parked and not running somewhere though, then water would most definately get into places it shouldnt
the majority of vented bonnets have the scoops just over the cam gear covers so water falls in front of the engine
What about putting in a small plastic trough that diverts water away to the side or something under the bonnet... Other than that I just sourced a Subaru vent to play with :-D
