Hey guys anyone know how I can get black paint off my once shiney intercooler????? Some idiot (old mechanic) thought he'd paint it instead of putting standard ones back in after being defected. Any ideas???
going to be hard to clean it out of the veins, but you may just need to get to it with paint remover/stripper, and wash it off thoroughly. then polish the end tanks.
Paint stripper is very harsh though and I don't want the centre of my cooler to be grey( natural colour of aluminim) and the outside shiney. Unless I'm wrong and paint stripper will take it back to the silver colour only????
youll never get it all out i wouldnt imagine, going to be tough to get in all the creases and crevices that a ic has.....maybe sand blasting would work, but might be a little harsh on the ic....
Paint stripper is about the only way... Why don't you just leave them black? If it's been defected before, it might happen again. I'd leave them black. I wouldn't want to sandblast the cores, they are quite thin.
Not paint, it's a graphite based coating. Similar to HPC but helps heat exchange rather than keeping heat in or out
I painted my FMIC with VHT Barrel black. Allows heat transfer, all the motorbike guys use it on the cooling barrels of their bikes. A naughty big FMIC just screams out defect. That's why its the only way to roll...
Isn't soda blasting also abrasive??? Keep in mind that as little as a bug hitting the FMIC at speed can distort the cooling fins. They can also be bent easily with a screwdriver. I personally would only use a chemical soak to remove paint. I'm thinking gentle agitation over a course of hours may work well (thinking on top of the washing machine).
i figured soda blasting would be ok because a chem soak may ruin the aluminium. Using this mehod of soda blasting should be mild enough on the metal while being effective on the paint. As always, i stand to be corrected
