bang .... louder than a rifle shot PESSHHHHHHHHHHHH much louder than a semis parking brake being applied and about 10 times longer Now what :bash: mutter mutter mutter It appears my aircon has chucked a hissy fit mutter mutter mutter :bash: Found the hole easily enough, its in the hard line directly above the compressor ( pump ), that little welded on upside down nut that has a 2nd nut and plastic cover screwed into a threaded hole. My plastic bit was shot out ( the bang part) & The escaping expensive gas wooshed out the little hole = PESSHHHHHHHHHHH sound I've got a spare hardline with this 'nut / cap' combination and will change it over in the next day or 3...... Question is ...... WHY did it blow out ??? Aircon had only been running for 5mins at the most Aircon wasnt set to far below ambient temp ( ~8degrees at the most ) Aircon was serviced last year and re-gassed at the same time Aircon hasnt given any problems since I've owned the car car was sitting stationary for that 5 mins and had not been driven prior on the day except to be moved out of the shed earlier. Kingy
I actually had time to switch off the engine.... walk around to the front of the car and lay down and 'feel' the escaping gas.. get the jack and jack up that side of the car.... lay down again and slip under the car.... And still feel the escaping gas..... was an easy spotto
That nut/cap thingo is an actual pressure release valve. This is the exact same part on my black zed that is allowing the gas to leak out. Found this after attempting to get it regassed. Cool drive and the other 2 A/C places i deal with at work all tell me to weld it shut. Might be your next best option now too. Or, alternatively, if you source a replacement (new) let me know, surely its designed to be there for a reason. For it to go bang, i can only imagine that the system over pressurized and it just couldnt handle venting that much pressure. There is meant to be a automatic pressure switch in A/C systems...that turns the pump off...i maybe wrong with this one nissan fast here i come.
Same thing happened to me a while ago. Was at the petrol station filling up, engine had been off a few minutes and kbang followed by a cloud of mist from under the car. scared the bejeebers outta me! Seems to be the same part from what I can tell, havent got around to having it fixed yet.
been thinking about removing my air con for a week or so as i'm pulling my motor out and it needed gassing any ways.. but after reading this i thinking it aint going back in!
Flag that, on a 35+ degree summers day, i'll take climate controlled comfort with a well serviced a/c system rather than just ripping the thing out. I vote replace the part required, then take it for a regass and full system service.
Yeah, like i need more help loosing hair from all that wind blasting on my head! Besides i get sunburnt easily on my thin patch these days... *sigh* :bash:
tried the fast system, to get a part number - fark me takes a while to work out what part of the program does what... end result....still no part number - gave up on it. anyone know the number, cause ill hit up nissan and get my trade price for some if a few are needing them.
I'm with Mike... take off the targa's and let the hot air out of the Z (which is essentially a greenhouse on wheels)...
