why didn't they just start with a slicktop... it now certainly looks like one.

so more of an "aero top" than a "vert" really.

I still like it though. Very much :D Awesome concept and with the hatch tub, its a very Ferrari 348/355 concept too :D

Hopefully lighter than having 2 glass targa panels, and gives it smoother lines.

    very nice.

Not sure why they didn't just go for a 2 seater/slicktop. They are aiming for a race weight of under 2200lb and 1500hp+ This was that nuts one with the RB26 in it, but that guy gave up and sold it to this bloke.

Oh yeah, that hardtop weighs 3lb. :D

    I disagree to a point

ok 1 its a drag car not a street car so there is the "why bother" factor I agree

but the concept is a neat one.

Starting with a Targa rather than a slick top makes sence as the chassie is already setup for no roof + minimal flex

This then becomes an alternative to having glass panels AND removes the T bar AND would be lighter with nicer lines.

just imho though. Each to thier own.

Given Ferrari 308, 348, 355, Toyta Supra, and many others have this method of roof over targa, it's a proven concept.

Then again, pleany do make use or targa
    300zx
    280ZX
    Pontiac
    MR2 (i think?)
    etc etc

EDIT: Going back to "why on a drag car" though, maybe this is JUST to save weight.
They have got rid of the heavy glass targa panels (yes they SHOULD have started with a slick top but they didn't)
They have also got rid of the heavy glass rear hatch.

Good moves imo if wanting to maximise power to weight

they should have just started with a slicktop and fitted a carbon fibre hatch

    original - probably
    smart - hell no!

unless the vert has a lighter, evenly dispersed chassis then i cant see the point and if my memory serves me correctly the vert has the worst chassis out of all the models for any type of racing.

could have just got a slicktop and made a fibreglass hatch ect.

yeah on that I agree (as I said) BUT they clearly started with a targa. Maybe they couldn't get a good slicktop, being the rarer of the breed.

cause he bought a convertible drag car first

If it is the same convertible drag car that I have seen previously, then I would assume a possible answer would be the owner bought it as an existing established convertible drag car, but due to the convertible intrinsic drag characteristics he is changing it to a slick-top chop-back for better airflow. Well that is my 2 cents.

I think they wouldnt have gone for a 2+0 slicktop as the shorter wheelbase wouldnt be as good for drag.
I have done a similar thing with mine. I have made a fibreglass rear hatch & fabricated a steel roof (from a vb commodore roof) & used targa side peices & welded it all together.
The only reason I didnt go for a fibreglass roof is it must be a tin top for the class of racing I am in. Reason I didnt go for a slick top is I needed a longer wheelbase for better handling.
These guys certainly went to a lot of trouble with theirs!

I think the convertible has the same wheelbase as a slicktop... being a two seater and all...
