I guess all the guys that say "not strong enough" ... "too hard" ... "costs too much" .... "must have rocks in ya head" know what their are talking about .... But ... It works for me and many others .... spose it may be harder or more expensive in Oz to get parts or something ... The results speak for themselves really ... proven in the UK and US ... I really hope all the guys that comment are speaking from actual experience ... not just forum talk ... Because Mike Smith and others in the UK, US e.tc. aren't dummies ... As I said It works bloody well for me ... the NA conversion has been no worries at all. Each to there own I guess .... thought I'd share my experience anyway for the guys who are interested. If you haven't seen the video have a look ... and if I get a chance I'll do a run with Datascan running and do some times at the track and see how the performance goes against another club member who has a TT SWB manual. Cheers, Rob
I would leave the R230 and get leader gears if its a 2 seater ..as I am reason being its much needed weight at the rear lowest to the ground to keep weight distribution more balanced not too mention strength ..etc
When was the last time someone HERE actually broke a diff or a half shaft. Either a R200 or a R230? I've never seen one go that wasn't from old age and no oil changes. If the R200 is good enough for bazillion kw Skylines and S13/14/15's how is a Z going to kill one? Even with the Skylines they only blow the half shafts when they are drag racing, they get around 3-4 passes before they change them out for brand newies
IF your car has stock turbos on it 2650 revs is bordering on positive boost with 4.1 diff set at 100klms/hr. So if you dont go cruising distances and/or dont give a toss about fuel economy then get em. If you have GT28RS whihc come on boost later and its a road car then a small economy penalty probably isnt going to matter. For 95% of people on here that dont have bigger turbos, these are unneccesary and waste fuel. If your car doubles as a track or drag car and has bigger turbos that come on boost later. Then get em. I have Leader gears in the track car. IMO they are in their natural environment in THAT CAR. It doesnt get below 4000 revs at all on the track hence they are perfect .
If you plan it out properly a na swap is better. Its cheaper. You also have more diff choices. But because i already have a one-piece and hicas lock i dont hink i would get a na subframe. And ive already done my bushes. Actually I dont think i would get 4.1 gears anyway. I think they should have been made a tad smaller. like 4.2. I think 4.1 is Na subframe territory.
Noticed Kaaz centers on ebay not long ago. Bout $1350 delivered. The Na is available too. $100 cheaper i think. http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&item=180261317811
hey just out of criosity, what is the normal ratio on yours, mines an NA '94 manual car and the diff has 349 stamped on it. is that the ratio? cheers
