were are you getting your new actuators Naill? I think my wastegates are creeping open, Im having trouble getting mine to hold boost high in the rev range. Goes up to 16 then drops off to about 14
Ive got some that are about 2 years old off y old setup. when these ones come off im gonna send them to a turbo specialist and get them calibrated. most stock turbo setups have that boost tapering off problem
I set the standard actuators by bending the rods. At 7psi I set the gate at 0.020" open measured using a dial guage off the end of the actuator rod.
cheers erik, but i think mine have weak springs rather than just a slight difference in opening times, with no actuator boost/vac lines connected it wont boost over 13psi
Well idid the actuators yesterday, started at about 10, and finished at 7, had 2 brothers helping me but we had a cruisey day, music, beers and bbq. best engine R+R to date. lol I wasnt convinced that my other actuators were that much stronger than the ones i removed so i fitted some helper springs too. i figured i can just about get in and remove them if they are no good but trying to fit them if needed would be real difficult. with no boost controller connected, base actuator pressure is now 10psi, boosts very quickly now, not that much more lag than a stock manual set up and pulls like a wooly bull to the limiter. havent boosted it up more than that yet as i wanted to recheck all the levels today. Will let you guys know soon. these turbo's seem to be getting better and better all the time, i can see why the guys in the states like em.
dont think there will be any boost increase today fella's, started spluttering just as i got to work, feels like no fuel. fuel pump has proably fallen over, ill have to get that fixed first. stay tuned

She's off to the exhasut shop tomoro, then back to me for some more setting up when i get time and some final preperations before the dyno day. The spluttering probllem i had today was CAS wiring, that was easily fixed . i fitted a switch in the boot to bypass the FPCU just in case it does fall over soon.
bloody hell this is going to be like a brand new zx mechanicly aye. Hope fully once shes done she gives you sh!t loads of power and 20+ trouble free years
lol, that is my plan, eventually there wont be much left that can go wrong, especially since i dont do many kays. having the cooling system completely sorted is one of my favourite things at the moment. sitting at 86deg even after a thrash. that makes me happy lol
Its official. my zed is awesome! got the exhasut done today, some decent 3in muff's, not cannons, and i got my kakimoto tips fitted to them. also had a balance pipe fitted, not an X pipe as i was thinking of upgrading the front pipes and dumps so ther's no point doing a merge pipe just yet. anway the main news is that is now boosting between 13 abd 14 psi, depending on which gear, and thats on a manual boost controller. The performance is incredible, i cannot over emphasise that. at 14 psi in 2nd it will fry the tyres on some road surfaces , on a good road it is just at the limit of traction. Power keeps increasing right round to 7500, thats nearly 120kph in 2nd.much more noticeable spool and blow off valve sound. Those turbo's are the single best mod i have done to my car. arse dyno is saying 260rwkw on 14psi. So im thinking of backing out on my plans to run 20psi at this stage. i think ill boost it up to maybe 17 or 18. this is for 2 reasons. fisrtly because it is hugely fast on the current boost level so i cant really see myself needing anymore for a car that is mostly used on the street and secondly because i dont want to risk damging this beautifull motor so early on lol. Sorry to dissapoint those who were expecting to see 20 psi this dyno day but its not gonna happen, but i promise it will still deliver a big number Id be alot more confident if i had cometic gaskets and ARP head studs. currently i have OEM headbolts and stock head gaskets. Gasket failure would be my primary concern, im not worried about the bottom end, leaning out or det problems, just those stock head gaskets So to summarise i am absolutely delighted with my zed at the moment. the combination of good modifications and i suppose more importantly alot or the maintainance items ive done recently have made the driving experience fantastic. those genuine fan clutches are expensive but worth every penny! Paintwork next and a dam good insurance policy!!!!!!
That's awesome Niall, i think you'll still be close to that infamous 400rwhp or 300rwkw figure even at 18psi mate! This is a really great testimonial for the high flowed stockies!! sure housing size isn't as big to deliver increadibly high top end power, but it's still got quite large power figures and i bet a shitload less lag than the big boys! Great work mate, looking forward to even 18psi on your dyno day
Thanks fpr the comments Ben, anyone who is interested in these or similar turbo's is welcome to come for a spin in mine when ever they want.Ill be very suprised if someone says they're not powerfull enough. lol Ill be interested to see how the hypergear turbo's compare to mine on the dyno day. Im looking at you Brad!!!
wow man i wish i was pulling the numbers your are on just 14psi thats incredable keep up the great work and let us know how u go when you bump the boost up more
... me too! as i'll be going the 320hp rated Hypergear turbos shortly which are similarly rated to the GT28RS cores aswell. ... oh, and bags a passenger ride in your Zed next time i see you. lol.
Useless without pics again i know, but i promise there will be some coming soon Todays update comes after the dyno day which saw the rollin mobile make 368.2rwhp at between 15 and 16psi Was good to see the afr rock steady throughout the range, someone did a great job with the chip tune So im pretty happy with the result, more boost is on the cards and 400hp wont be out of reach. all tha twill be on hold for a few weeks as its going in for paintwork in a few days
400hp easy. Good job, its nice when these things finally start to come together. If only my engine would hurry up and get built. It it takes any longer im going to throw some cams in as well :O. If i get a decent tax return.
