Hi guys, I'm looking for some info on replacing my Radiator. I've recently sprung a leak in the radiator core and sprayed coolant through the engine bay after the spray hit the fan blade. So i'm looking for where i could get a replacement radiator, either a stock or aftermarket replacement, as well as some relevant pricings. I've had my mechanic do a check with Natrad, and basically said their price for a stock replacement was over the top at $425. can I expect better than this? Cheers, Choofa
A/M radiators can be found cheaper, but they have problems, the shroud in most cases has no mounting points on a/m rads, this throws the air from the fan blades in every direction except where it should, this can make a difference in how effective you cooling is, you'll also need to fabricate top brackets to hold it in place in most cases. The price you've been quoted for a genuine stock radiator or re-core is not expensive, when you consider it.
I believe UAS still have some stock of 40mm twinpass radiators at $530. Australian made, top quality, lighter and more efficient than thicker bokk choi radiators off ebay. It will also fit properly. Manual or auto? TT or NA?
lol , "bokk choi" radiators , thats pretty funny. im guessing your talking about the cheap 56mm aluminum ones on ebay ? why do you say the OZ ones more efficent ? .
Yes, better technology in cores, and twinpass feature by design is more efficient. 40mm twinpass cores cool more efficiently than thicker 56mm core at road speeds and do not obstruct airflow through the radiator. This has been tested. Yes there is a price difference, some will get away with fitting less efficient cheaper radiators and if not pushing the car will not notice the difference. Those going to the track, doing lots of city driving, or running FMIC (which again makes the radiator work harder) will benefit from a better design.
i was thinking on the other hand that although perhaps less efficent the thicker 56mm cores would be stronger and less likley to block up ? yeah i have one and it works fine no probs at all no matter how hot the day or how hard i push it, but i only have a NA im guessing its the TT boys that need to be more carefull what they do. .
