organise for someone to start the car up weekly and let it warm up/take for a drive.

and if you must keep it under a cover, make sure it is fully sealed, have your Grandparents check it regulary for mice ect.

maybe have a look those storage places, would beat leaving it under a cover, all nice and locked up and just have someone check it/start it up once a week.

good luck at recruit school(i'm assuming its kapooka as you can take your car to IETS and your first/all postings)

haha finally going to camp pooki.. i can check up on it for ya if you want? i'd say leave it at my place but i can only store it under the balcony.. and people always spill there drinks up there.. but it washes off.. lol.. well it did wash of the festiva..

if you gonna put a cover over it get a bed sheet or some thing first.. we covered up the festiva and after a month we took it off and the car was extremely dusty.. lol.. the cover protected it but dust still got through the material..

hmm well i was just thinking about taking the battery out, as im not sure if it will be able to be regularly started, but then what problems could arise if it just sat under a cover for a few months without being driven? or could i just come back chuck a battery in and drive away(i really have no idea), plus last time i went away for two weeks my stepdad got me a flat battery by trying to start the car with the immobiliser on a dozen orso times.

and yeh i leave for kapooka next monday so pretty hectic,

and thanks stretch i like your idea about a bedsheet, then car cover, plus my car is allready so dirty allready aha kinda why im not washing it, cause i tell myself its not worth it:p

mate just to give you a quick heads up, dont be suprised if 3 months turns into 6 or 12.. when i marched out of camp pooki i was sent to holding platoon in bandiana for 3 months while i waited for my course.. i didnt know this till i got to bandiana..

if you do go to holding platoon let me know i have some good mates down there doing the fitters course, sure they'd love to take you out on the town.. lol

oh and get used to being called a jube!

holding troop isnt the end of the worl with regards to your car.

my mate was put into holding troop down at pucka for a while once he finished kapooka, his time was mostly guard duty, helping around with GD stuff and he finished everyday at 4pm.

what he did was have is dad drive his car down from wollongong to melbourne and he then had his car.
the staff didnt have a problem with it and he got to do his own thing after work anyway.

regardless of where you go, once your out of kapooka your right to have your own car there.

    1/
get some mouse/rat bait and place it around the garrage about 10 days prior to lockdown.... repeat on lockdown day.

    2/
buy a 'trickle charger' amd hook it up to the battery, dont disconect the battery.

    3/
put the car on stands and remove wheels
(3months will see a distinct flatspot develope in the tires if left with the cars weight on them for that period..... also helps with theft prevention)

    4/
buy oil and a filter and leave on the front drivers floor
( this will remind you to do a service when you return)

    5/
place a car cover over the car but dont let it rest on the ground
( mice will use it as a ladder)

    6/
have someone check on the cars state once a week, and get them to add a couple of extra mice baits if needed and check the trickle charger is working.

    7/
notify your insurance company of the situation

    8/
notify police of the cars location and storage situation and any other relevant details

I just got my car out of storage after 10 months, only problem encountered was that it needed a new battery. It wont be the first time your car has sat around in storage if it is an import, I doubt they did anything special then and it survived:cool:

I'd highly recommend this because I ruined a full set of good tyres by not putting on stands.
