    Hi guys,

I've recently bought myself a Black 1996 300zx Twin Turbo - Australian release model. And came across this site, very good indeed.
My car is running great, I just have a couple of questions if anyone is able to help me out, hopefully the pictures help. I thought i'd start asking here before heading to the mechanic.

Now in this picture one of the nobs on the balance tube is sucking air in when the car is running, nothing is connected to it.

I'm wondering what this thing is here, there's two of them next to each other. Are they some kind of solenoid?

Now what I can work out is the green coloured tube is meant to go to that nob on the balance tube, can anyone clear that up for me?

The other thing I noticed was the other end of the tube that comes out of this solenoid thing, goes into a T intersection, and one of the ends goes no where.
It's just hanging there, does anyone know where that's meant to go if anywhere?

Also, these pipes on the side of the motor, what are they for? Are they meant to have tubes plugged up to these as well?

This photo isn't from my car, as its hard to take a photo of...but i've tried to show you what's on my car.

And it looks like there's a pipe coming out of the intake pipe which isn't connected to anything either.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks and I look forward to being part of the community :)

Looks like you've worked it out yourself. You just need to connect all those hoses and tubes up.

The two solenoids: one is for AIV's tothe other is for EGR.

And it's not a 1996, they do not have AIV's but pics show AIV solenoid.

Unless it's an Aus Spec with a TT conversion.

If you consult the Service Manual in the Tech Section, there is a picture showing the layout of all the sensors and other electronics in the engine bay.

You're in for a pleasant surprise....

because it must be running like a bucket of crap with all those boost leaks

Once you fix the leaks you'll begin to experience what a tt is supposed to go like, so hang on to your hat & your licence :zlove:

Often the easiest way to check vacuum lines, is to pull an identical car alongside and use the good one as a blueprint.

Might sound like a stupid question, but I haven't been able to find a service manual. Anyone know where I could buy one in Melbourne? I've found the ones online, but it might be easier if it's in a book.

I'm sure you could get one from Caz, UAS, or TTZED. I've seen them listed on at least one their web sites.

There's a Vic Tech Day on the 5th. If you can make it, why not check it out? It's in Coming Events.

    Cheers,

    Peter

I'm just trying to work out which solenoid is which, AIV or ERG. I'm confused at the moment.

If anyone can give me a heads up, would be great :)

For anyone who may have been wondering how I was going with this.
I managed to find a website with some photos and explanations on Vaccum Lines & removing the AIV completely

    http://s95014253.onlinehome.us/63104/212983.html
    http://s95014253.onlinehome.us/63104/137858.html

You may have heard of this site already, but there's the links if your after that
I haven't had a chance to fix my lines up yet, but hopefully will by the weekend.

Thanks everyone for your help with this ;)
