Was driving back from a job at work and noticed a weird buzzing noise coming from the boot. I thought it was the fuel pump until I noticed the ABS light had also come one. I drove slowly back to work (was only a couple of blocks) and stopped the car and turned the engine off. But the buzzing didn't stop, even with the key totally out of the ignition and the imobiliser armed, which is about as off as a car can get. So I opened the boot, key in hand and sure enough, the ABS unit is happily buzzing away. Sounded like a servo or something was stuck on. So I disconnected the battery, which did stop it. Since reconnecting the battery the problem hasn't re-occurred after a couple of days, but I don't believe it won't come back. Any ideas what it might have been or where to start looking? I know stuff all about ABS.
Nope ! But when you find out let me know My white ZX does the same and I've done the same as you did ..... drop off the battery One thing I have noticed is that when its happily buzzing away ..... If you slam on the brakes ( low speed) there's a distinct couple of "pulses" sent back through the brake pedal..... & If you pulse on the brake pedal back at it then the servo unit goes apeshyte ! The battery trick only seems to last for about 2~3 hours of driving ... I'm used to it now..... just up the volume nob on the stereo
just a side track on topic .... Has anyone removed their ABS ?.. or is there a tech article anywhere on removing it and all associated lines
I sincerely hope not. ABS braking systems provide the exact braking procedure taught by Advanced Driving Schools, only difference being that they provide it to such a precise degree, that very few highly skilled drivers would be able to emulate it consistently. That having been said, I would think that ABS removal from anything other than a dedicated track car, would be highly illegal and therefore render you liable to prosecution(if not serious injury).
I don't find the ABS in the Z very good at all. Compared to a new car it is really quite lame. I wouldn't remove it, but buying a Z without it wouldn't bother me. I'm reasonable sure that someone here has removed it, have a search (I distinctly remember Chili having a whinge about it)
to me it sounds like a relay..relays are cheap and easy to replace, thats if thier is one in the boot round the abs system.other wise you might need a new abs computer but more dianostics first sounds like the best way to go.
Checked your "Clicky" and can't find any comments/whinging from me, so my original assessment re your powers of recollection have been re-affirmed.
