Guys/Gals, Just got a question regarding exhaust system... I was thinking of getting a strait pipe exhaust system, so in other words, no mufflers. I would be my current setup which is a cat back, including high flow cats, however, I would take the mufflers off from the first flange and get a pipe with a matching flange attached to it, so that I can swap my mufflers and the strait pipes over as I please. Now note that both setups will still have my cats there... So no excess polution... This would be purely just for fun and excessive noise HAHAA :bash: Question 1: Will this increase the sound of my car by much? Question 2: Will it increase performance in anyway? Please no flamers or anything of the sort. Thanks peoples, Adam.
Sure it will be really loud and drone like hell and be unbearable to drive daily. Performance? Maybe slightly better flow but not much, especially seeing as you only have half an exhaust system to begin with. If it were me, I'd be finishing the exhaust system. Catback systems just make noise for the most part anyway, the restrictions in the front half of the exhaust are far greater. p.s - it would also be illegal to drive on the road like this.
Do you think it would be possible to check the change in noise by taking the mufflers off and starting the car?
are you talking about the centre muffs? Ive justn had mine removed from my 2.5nch cat back system and hand on heart, its not that much louder. I now have a nice "bark" when you open her up but thats about it Actually... sounds pretty nice BUT....it all depends on YOUR system mine was annoyingly quiet before. Had them removed due to having holes in them, and this is the result. But you'res might be diferent. And if yours is already loud, then it would probably make it illegally loud. my system is 2.5inch MILD steel cat back with Mandral bent, but i dont know the make of the end mufflers.
Im talking about the mufflers coming off and just a strait pipe replacing them. In other words, a cat back system with just strait pipes on the end, no mufflers... I hope it gets louder and turns into more of a scream, than a rumble...
It's going to drone and give you a headache, and get you pulled over! lol The engine is ALWAYS going to be deep toned and rumble, it's a VG. Seriously just finish your exhaust properly, it will flow better sound better and also be legal.
stop being silly Adam, thats a stupid idea, youll last a few drives before you get defected lol :bash: Whack a nice set of mufflers on and you will get a nice note ,it will look good and be legal, dont and it will be like a truck and everyone will have a good laugh you cant re invent the wheel
Thanks peeps... I'll think about it for the time being, maybe just leave it for now and get differnt mufflers down the track... Thanks anyways all.. Adam. :zlove:
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH do it, i want to see you cry after you realise you just wasted so much time those v8's can do it because they have centre mufflersssss.... adam is doing it from cat back...LOLL... 1. IT WILL NOT SCREAM i promice you 2. IT WILL SOUND LIKE COMPLETE SHIT if you want to see what i mean then yes, just take the mufflers off from the flange behind the cats.... edit: i just remembered that i actually did this on another zed when we were changing the mufflers (from cat back) for epa purposes. and then we took a vid for shits and giggles.... ill upload it soon and ill show ya HAHA
Haha yeh it will probably not sound that great on a VG. I had an R31 skyline with an RB20 makin bout 200rwkw and I had a 'race' exhaust for the track which was a 3 inch pipe with no mufflers that stopped before the diff lol. Sounded like a truck until boost (at about 4500 rpm lol... LAG??) but when it hit boost it sounded like nothing I've ever heard!! Probably still my favourite noise ever. I miss my skyline but I love my Z :zlove: So yeh it'll probably sound like a truck off boost. But might be good when you're mashing it!
With my old setup i just took the back end of the exhaust off after the cats and drove around like that for awhile, extremely loud more so on boost it draws alot of attention but i did notice a slight power increase. My cats were gutted so i didnt keep it like that for legal reasons
here u go. i uploaded it for u. keep in mind though it was done from a mobile phone so obviously the audio is not going to be the same. it is like 10X louder in person, to the point where at idling u just really wanted it off its that loud... 300zx with no catback
um its way louder? as mentioned it just sounds like you have no exhaust on. pretty much the exact same if you have ever taken your dumps off and turned on the car.... read my reply again, it mentions that it was taken from a cam fone and the audio is seriously 10X louder to the point where it was just idling and it was just too loud. it was shaking the garage and everything....
Mine currently has no cats and no cat back. That video does nothing to show just how loud it really is. On a NA it's just silly. On a TT I would go as far as to say it is bearable, drones, but bearable. Did it to a mates for a bit, ended up sticking the titanium 3.5" single back on, much better
I drove my car 2 mins down the road to the exhaust shop with just n*power split dumps and front pipes on. yes it was rather loud. not as loud as an na I imagine though. sounded terrible. much better with cats & mufflers :zlove:
