Was driving along tonight and my car suddenly started running really rough, There sounds like there is some missing and really bad idle. After revving the car it will almost stall then hunt up and down untill it stablises. Can this be the ptu dying or a fuel issue. Also the cat overheat light came on. Any help will be much appreciated.
Had similar issue, lost a cylinder and it started getting fuel thru the CAT and it was overheating it. Try and determan which cylinder has gone/ is missing. May just be that a coil pack has gone or something like that. Doesnt take long to swap them around. Also, is the car hard to hard to start cold?
Check your water temp sensor and plug .... http://www.300zx.co.nz/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=29052&highlight=#29052 Worth a read. Cheers, Rob
BigZ you forgot to mention the smoke that smelt like burning plastic coming from the back of the engine when you pulled into the garage. On that note, it still smells in there
No rain, wasn't even thrashing it But yeah I'm pretty sure my cats are well buggered. The cat overheat light came on just before I came home. :S
Sounds like my problem, so fare ive replaced coilpack connectors, and a new water temp sensor and connector, Still same but, will hopefully be trying ptu tonight, the one i tried last night was dead...
I had a problem that sounds the same. My zed would be going along ok, then suddenly it would carry on like it was flooded and my cat light would come on. When I gave it a bit of a rev it would clear. I unplugged my 02 sensor on the drivers side and it went fine, seems my 02 on the drivers side is stuffed. Try just unplugging them one at a time and take it for a run and see what happens, you will soon see if it's one of them. Good luck Cheers Fran :zlove:
Sorry to hear that just throwing in an idea . I know how frustrating it can be trying to find the prob, as I also tested most of the things you did. Cheers Fran :zlove:
yea, im just going through the list, after ptu ill try cas, and then try coilpacks, ive got a conzult cable, but no pc atm, but i should have another tomorrow arvo
I have also am having the same problem. A few nights ago I went to start my car after driving home from work and the car wouldn't start. It just kept trying to kick over but no spark. Then the next day it was fine but when I drove home from work it just died as I was slowing down. That was a pain in the middle of a major intersection. anyway I pushed it to a side street and left it there for a few hours then it was fine. I quickly drove it home before the same thing happened. Just then I went to start it at it sounded horrible like it was missing and struggling to stay on. So I just turned it off and jumped on here Civa
Hmm i unplugged my o2's starts alright idles okay for 2-3 seconds then starves and dies. What is going on here
