...sits in the garage, I hardly drive it. Last eighteen months I've averaged 10k's a week. (700 or 800 kilometres in nearly two years) Don't really want to, but not sure it makes sense to pay $1,500+ a year on insurance and rego when it's not used. Ohhh well big decision, it owes me over $40k and surely going to lose most of this. OOOPS WRONG SECTION I"M A DICK move to Z Related Non tech if you can please mods.
Part out the aftermarket bits you have and return it to stock as much as you can to get the most from it. Got a Parts list? Shotgun anything good.
Oh. Ok. Umm. You're never going to get back what you've put into it, and with the prices of Z's nowadays being so low, it's almost at the point where it doesn't make sense to sell them unless you are really financially in need. If you aren't getting the enjoyment from the very little driving you get to do with it, I'd suggest deregistering / uninsuring, and using it for a track car. Once you go a few times you will probably get addicted and a new loving relationship will result Good? BTW, still ISO part's list. Hehe. :zlove:
I thought about dropping the insurance, but living in Southport too many cars get nicked and don't think I can get fire and theft only. Still got the passion and love my Z, just think it's a waste of cash when it's sitting there unused most of the time. *shrugs* 40K in the first 5-6 years and less then 1k in the last 2 years. I want it, but common sense says I don't need it. :zlove:
Take up cruising thurs and sat nights like me . my cars been sittin here for a couple of months now but thats only coz the engine needs a rebuild :bash: I'll never sell my zed and like ZDUCTIV said, if I have it long enough and decide to de register it its gonna become a drifter and with the money spent on it and the rapid depreciation in value of these great cars it makes no sence to me to sell it. Might as well just keep it and enjoy what you've put in it how ever far into the future that may be.
hey egg, a few questions what colour is it? (silver) what mods? (adjustable suspension and new shocks and springs all round, only 15K on them... twin 3" exhaust, UD pulley, HKS intake, nice set of Simmons Wheels 18x10 & 18x8.5) 2seater? (2+2 with leather) TT? (yup) is it manual? (auto) what year? (1990) I think it's a bit rough still, stuff like paint aint perfect and rear spoiler bubbling... but have all the reciepts for 100k, new radiator, suspension exhaust etc and it's never been boosted over stock boost levels... but mechanically I'd say excellent, original 110k... I know my mileage is genuine. Prob missed heaps.
I know how you feel Paul. Our Zed just seems to spend more time sitting then it does going any where. I'm looking into my rego options to see if I can get the car onto a limited use rego like club reg or something similar. I don't want to de-register it and only use it as a track car and selling it is out of the question. I don't even want to think what I have put into the car but if I included the purchase cost it would probably be closer to $100K than I would like. We will drive it to Cowra at Easter time, and once I get the ramps for the trailer sorted hopefully spend a bit more time on the track. Keep it Paul, you know you want to.
in a similar situation myself. had planned to sell the zed, bought myself a mitsubishi triton as i want to get into offroading, use it on the family farm and have the ability to carry people plus gear. i've got the car on its way, looked into the prices of zeds etc. - there are some really nice zeds going for 10k, some out there for 6k. the zed is a car i've spent a lot of time and money on, i learnt about motors, how they work, fixing them etc. This is a car i truly enjoy owning, driving, working on etc. I don't think i'll get back what i've put into it, so i'm at a point where i figure i may as well hold onto it for now. will keep it in the garage, take it out on weekends, cruises etc. I'll be able to tinker more as i have another car, if its sitting there doing nothing in a few months i'll reassess and see what happens. problem is the value of these cars has depreciated very quickly, there's a lot of buckets out there bringing the price down. i'm in no hurry to get rid of her now!!
Dont do it egg, you'll regret it! and buy the way I've done no K's in nearly four years, and spent a FKN fortune.
G'arn... do it, do it!! I double dare ya..... Biggest problem you'll find is that your 'better-half' will expect you to spend all the money you save by not having a Zed to be spent on her...!!! No-win situation, I'm afraid....unless, of course, you barter with her...
BETTER IDEA I live on the GC as well Egg, Why don't you let me chauffer you around in it instead? We both get the best of both worlds. I get to drive a zed, you get the full zed experience. You know where I am if you change your mind ... Fate
Sometime in the future, maybe not too far away, these cars are going to start becoming classic vintage sports cars (yes I know they already are, but you know what I mean) and prices will appreciate again. Then we'll all be glad we bought them when we did and kept them. If you have the room in the garage and don't need the cash I suggest returning it to stock standard, moth-ball it and forget it for a few years (other than periodic cleaning and general maint checks). It could well be worth what you've spent on it one day.
and how long do you think until you suddenly owe egg a pair of turbos before you can get a pair for your own car
