I need to change the brake pads for the first time since I bought the car. Any idea where to go to replace them in Perth? I have no idea how much it may cost to replace all 4. It is stock NA. Can I do it by myself or better to do in shop. Any help will be great. Thanks in advance. I just rang Giant Nissan and they quoted 155.00 for front set and rear 146.50 incl GST. and 420.00 for labour to replace them. almost 720.00 to change brake pads.
If your discs are in good condition, it shouldn't take more than 1 hour to change the pads on all four wheels. It's one of the easiest jobs on a Z32 that you can do for yourself.:zlove::zlove:
dude why dont you speal to tom (aka Zrated / Perth Z Performance ) He will sort you out... I change my own pads not a big deal but depends on the person I guess. have fun ( there is plenty of tech articles as well. See whats what)
I wish I can go to TOM. The only issue is 1 hour drive from where I live. and TOM doesn't work in weekend. And I am going to buy Bendix Ultimate Brake pads from Caz. Does anybody sell them in perth?
Caz will give you one of the best prices if you can wait until it arrives. Otherwise a few of the boys who work at Coventries might be able to help (Jinxed or Whatever Rob's nick is, I forget )
Seriously dude.... im a complete noob. Checking fliud levels is my most intense mechanical task.... but yeah.... even I change change pads myself. Do some research... buy some pads.... and off you go. It's piss easy.
Hardest bit is pushing the pistons back; but even then its not that hard. I wish I had 5 bucks for everytime I changed my brake pads *sigh*
send me a pm if you like ill sort out pads for you....i work at covs as mentioned above so its no big issue to help out....
haha soo true. Especially when your pads are worn right back lol For this I just used the old pads to lever the piston back. Kabir: Once new pads are fitted DO NOT go for a test drive. DO NOT roll your car towards your back garage wall to see if the breaks work. Start the car on a flat level service and pump the brakes to ensure they are working and gripping. Otherwise..... it's all a little scary lol. Also read any "bedding in" instructions carefully and do as it says. I get tiantium stripped as you dont have to bed in, but MOST others you do. If you do it wrong... your pads are fkd real quick and your off to the shop to buy some new ones. My last thing to say on breaks would be... even though changing pads is easy....... check your disks/rotors as well. Feel with your fingure nail for signs of scratches and grooves, and if you're at all unsure, have someone in the know check them. If your rotors are screwed... replacing your pads wont do you any good for very long at all. While pads are "easy" do not belittle the task. Breaks are arguably THE MOST IMPORTANT part of your car in terms of saftey. ....oh yeah... no touchy touchy when hot
Thanks for all response. Specially UGAME. Let me buy the pad first from CAZ. I am not in a rush. I am not feeling very comfortable playing with brake pads specially it is seriously safety issue if someting is not fitted right. Also I can pay 200 to fit them in shop and will not hurt me when I charge 200 per hour to my client . So for 200 I wouldn't take any risk. Thanks again to all who responded.
I promise when you get the first one off you'll realise it can't be stuffed up. There are pins to slot in the holes on top of the pad and you'll see straight away how it works. I'm happy to come show ya if it's on a weekend, depending on where you are, where did you live again? SOR right? I'm near Freo so I'm Tom is 1 hr drive for ya you're probably close to me? Or in the hills?
Caz is sending me some Bendix Ultimates f&r .. It is only 1 hr to change all. Shouldn't be 200 per hr
And most of that time is getting the car in the air and getting the wheels on and off if it's a home job. The actual changing pads bit takes like 5 mins per corner.
I'll put your pads in for $200 - I'll even show you how to do it yourself next time aswell as do the bedding in process!
Hey vbevan, Thanks for being so nice. I am in south lake. I can drive to your place if you want. weekend is OK. Do we have to take off each wheels to get it done? I can PM you once the pads are in my hand. btw how much I have to pay you to help me out? Or you prefer beers.  Kabir
Yeah dude.... when I was saying about safety, i was just saying be carefull and kake sure everything is put back right. But dude... its SOOOOO easy. $200? let me put this into perspective..... my first try (which was on a 180sx and so i had tight bolts to undo.... no bolts on the Zed, just pins), took me about 30 mins for 1 corner. Now, i swear... so long as you dont run into issues.... INCLUDING jacking up, and removing the wheel..... 10 - 15 mins per corner Get one of the good lads on here to show you your first one, and you will happily do the rest yourself AND with good reason, return to the place that quoted you $200 and punch them square in the face
