Just a quick writeup of the weekend for those interested. I had been hoping to go to this event along with Wiz, Ports and JP but along the way Ports and Wiz dropped out leaving just JP and myself to fly the 300ZX Flag. I didnt get to leave Sydney until 11am on the Friday and was hoping to have a tow car for this one but ended up driving the Zed the 1000km to Phillip Island. Even managed to squeeze 4 race wheels + tools and clothes into the Zed without removing the passenger seat. Saturday was the practise day and I did about 20 odd laps learning the track since I only had very limited running at the Easter Nationals earlier in the year. There was plenty of extremely quick cars there from JP's slot car to Porsches, Evo's a GT40 a Ferrari and GTR's by the bucketload. There was no official timing on the saturday. The Sunday was the actual Supersprint and the weather was perfect. JP did very well and ended the day with a best of a 1min 45sec on his in car timer. I ran a 1min 59 on the second session but I departed for the long trek home before the results for the 3rd and 4th run were put up. Still waiting for the official results to be put up on the website but my best lap timed by my mate with a stopwatch was a 1.56.80 on the 3rd session. For the 4th session I was confident of dropping a couple more seconds but I encountered way too much traffic which I found to be a problem all day with 16 cars on the track at once and all released onto the track quite closely. The only real drama of the day was JP losing it pushing a bit too hard coming onto the straight and going through the grass at 180! Photo courtesy of SAU. If you ever get the chance to drive PI then you should do it. It is an awesome racetrack, easily the best in Australia IMO. I will post up the results when they come through but the quickest car of the day was an Insane GTR that did an amazing 1.42!
Well done JT Yeh was in touch with JP on sat/sun to see what was going on, he said you were going quite well, Still pissed at not being able to come down for a run as like you i have unfinished business there. will get back there one day. Laughed at the pic of Jp's car on the skyline forum, wouln't of been as funny in the drivers seat though.
Nice work JT, mid 1:50's is a top effort. Traffic seems a little heavy though, did you have any close battles? I'm hoping to get back for the 1st PIRAC PI meet next year.
nice effort yes i would like to redo philip island again one day as i should have been a little quicker than at easter but knowing you have to drive your car 2000km home kinda makes you think when pushing hard. is there much grass for john to mow in sydney i see a side business popping up there lol, that would have been hairy coming off on that corner at 180km/hr i know when i was touching the ripple strip at 150-160km/hr it felt great good to see you got some quicker times JT ya couldnt let an NA be not much slower than you :bash: lol
Adrenalin plus Huge fast track playing with some tough GTR's and a few V8 Commy's and Ford race cars, GT3 etc. I think I came second as and Sam who came first in his immac prepped and well sorted GTR who beat me got my attention. I tracked him down and went to his hideaway workshop in middle of nowhere near Wodonga and spent a few hours discussing geometry of steering and control arms and learnt a lot. He has done all the things I have been looking at doing but reluctant to and he has raised all pivot points of upper control arms and changed steering rack location etc and has tested and it works. Saved me years of trial and testing to give me a big head start on where and what to do. His car is a little lighter than mine with a more power. He even relocated his V8 Supercar brakes to the rear of the wheel arch with custom hubs. Big well done JT on your time and I think faster than all the zeds other than mine and Fleets from Easter??
Heaps of traffic, 16 cars would have been ok if the cars were running similar lap times but that wasnt organised too well. At one stage I had JP and a couple of the quicker GTR's in my session going 10sec a lap quicker as well as cars that were 10sec a lap slower! Was still alot of fun though, might go back next year for another crack.
well done beating your PBs guys. but hang on a minute what's that I spy in the back of JPs slot car? some sort of tank, It looks suspiciously similar to the fish tank in the back of my car, is that the methanol/water injection tank?
sharp eye there, pete ...!!! .. you guys scare the hell out of me with what you get up to ..... so presumably no major damage from the mowing experience ...????
Results! Finished 7th in class with a best lap of 1.57.24. JP finished 4th in class with a 1.45.90 lap. Shows how fast some of the GTR's were when 3 of them went quicker than JP. Fastest GTR of the day did a 1.42.05! Results here: http://http://www.piarc.com.au/files/Oct%20Sprint%20Prov%20Results.pdf

A few pics from Saturday. Spent the day with JP tweaking the car up for Sunday. OMG it was hamemring Sat Afternoon. It went past the GT3 like the Porche was standing astill down the main straight. It was dack staining to watch Sure the wing wont break John ?? Think you should lose the top wing. It isnt doing sh!t and is wrecking the airflow over the bottom thicker one
woah that overtaking on the outside is really ballsy!! great stuff! PS can we call JP "the lawnmower man" from now on?
