HAHA CHECK THIS WEAPON OUT "Custom Built 300ZX with carbureted 450hp LT1, 700R4" http://dallas.craigslist.org/car/390790710.html
its a very well done job, but why would you swap the mighty vg wiht such a primitive pos engine! i mean if your gonna go v8 swap i'd go a jap v8 or the latest possible chev motor (its not liek this guy is short on money)
Gotta agree, if you have that much money to throw at it, jsut spend the extra couple of k and buy a LS1 or LS2...or hold on for the LS3!!!
I dunno, you go to the drags and the weapons that are pulling fast as shit passses are not running new alloy chevs, they are using the old iron blocks, older technology.
I imagine their isn't the aftermarket support for the newer blocks yet. Stock for stock the new blocks are many times better. Lights, higher power, better flowing. It follows that once the R&D catches up, they will be ahead.
2 cars in 1, now thats something different. I enjoy driving my cars seperatly. Looks like a great job.
There has already been an LS6 so I don't know whether an LS3 will be any better. But have to agree about the LT1. Old technology, I understand the last ones to be manufactured where from 1999 and where fitted to trucks. BTW there is no such thing as a chev motor these days. GM's power division makes the V8's and they are available to all subsidiaries. (Chevrolet, Pontiac, Holden etc.)
Hold on, only 450hp? Is that at the engine or at the wheels? Coz if its at the engine thats pretty poor - ie 450hp - 25% drivetrain loss = 337rwhp/252RWKW. He could have done that with a stock VG30DETT, upgrade intercoolers, boost to 17psi and a safe stock ecu tune. Heck thats what I have and it netted me 251RWKW. And even if its 450RWHP, that is still easily acheivable with bigger turbos, upgraded injectors & a good tune. Which begs the question: why change engine???????
Dont worry, ive figured it out. He wants to be special/different by "doing something no one else has done" :bash: Sigh, how many times have I heard that before, in regards to RB/SR/V8 engine conversions Either way, power is power, doesnt matter where it comes from. V8, TTV6, V12 or nuclear reactor engine
very unique but such a waste of money IMO. if you're doing a V8 drop, at least drop in a LS not an ancient inefficient LT that weighs 200 pounds more and makes jack shit power :bash:
There's something to be said for simplicity. Maybe the guy knows those engine's inside and out so stuck with what he knows. Maybe he had a surplus built engine in his garage and a zed with no engine at the time. Maybe a friend bet his 50 grand it couldn't be done lol. Who knows. Well done in my opinion. In fact well done to anyone willing to try an engine swap from a different marque, because they sure seem to cop alot of criticism. I just appreciate the imagination, effort and engineering that went into the job. My 2c
Actually they are up to ls7. these engines are in some of the new corvetts. the ls6 however is probably easier to get your hands on coz they are in the top of the line commohores if i am not mistaken. ls1 all the way though if your on a budget!
LS9 Early reports indicate that a 6.2 L LS9 derivative is due in 2008. Displacement was a reportedly decreased for a thicker cylinder wall, to promote a stronger cylinder to deal with the rigors of possibly forced induction. A picture of this engine was seen drifting around on the internet, and it seems to be equipped with a positive displacement supercharger and is stated to produce 700 hp and will be available in the future Z07. A tuned down version will also be available with 600 hp in the 2008 Cadillac CTS-V Something to save for? The supercharged LS9 V8 will utilize an integrated intake manifold intercooler, and it?s expected to run 0-100 in under 3.5 seconds. The super-hot SS will weigh even less than the Z06, utilizing more carbon fiber in the body, as well as polycarbonate material. If the thought of the new 500-hp Ford Shelby GT500 Mustang hedging in on the 505-hp Corvette Z06's territory raises your blood pressure, don't despair: Corvette chief engineer Tom Wallace has a 650-hp trick up his sleeve. A new super Corvette will build on the Z06's 7.0-liter LS7 V-8 that was developed in sync with the Corvette C6.R Le Mans racer. For this limited-production Vette, which might be called the Z07, Chevy may increase the LS7's displacement and bolt on a supercharger to bump output by 145 hp. The Z07, due in 2008, will be further differentiated from the Z06 by the use of more carbon-fiber body panels and a huge hood vent aimed at killing front-end lift. In true Corvette style, Chevy will undercut competitors by pricing the Z07 at about $100,000. This Corvette has been known within GM as the Blue Devil, after the mascot of GM CEO Rick Wagoner's alma mater, Duke, and also as the Sting Ray, but we think they'll go with Z07, or maybe Z06.R.
awsome, i love the sound of it having a positive displacement supercharger. now all i need is US$100,000. pocket change really
its great to see that.. in a time where we have expensive fuel prices, and diminishing fossil fuels, car companies are still churning out massive petrol powered motors... It gives me hope that the combustion engine will be around for a while yet, which means my zed will still be able to get fuel and be enjoyed.. Cheers
its sad coz all these petrol guzzlers are shortening the life span of all engines, you might not be able to use your z soon cos oil prices will be through the roof. the funny thing is that huge ls9 6.2ltr v8 probably pretty good on fuel for its size and would still use less gasoline then a 1.3 rotary with the same amount of power. they might be making huge ltr engines but its good to see that companies are also making more fuel efficient engines also
does anyone know when this project was completed? It may have been a conversion perfomed many many moons ago to justify engine choice?
sorry, i was mistaken people the top of the line commos only have the ls2 i realy should have done my research b4 i blabed
