Hey everyone. Just recently finished my custom Zed bonnet creation. Its a Ford XB bonnet cut down and attached to the original bonnet. The hardest part was that the XB bonnet is steel and the zed bonnet is aluminium, so they couldnt be welded together. Ended up riveting the two parts together. After bogging and painting, cracks appeared. Stripped it all back and did it again with more rivets. Cracked again. Third time stripped it all back and fiberglassed over the top and underneath. Painted it all again and worked out a treat. I am very happy with the look and the way it has turned out. Turning heads all around the place. What are peoples thoughts, comments, critcism? Cheers, Willo.
that is very impressive very nice what have you done to get the lines flowing all the way down to the bottom of the front bar???
Did the xb have the scoops that close twogether, was the bonnet cut in half, either way it looks good
Yeah mate it was cut in half, about 4-5 inches were cut out. Here is a photo of the early stage of the bonnet. You can clearly see what was done.
That looks fantastic willo... Great to see people being imaginative, and if it doesn't work the first time, try and try again Neat job on the subtle race strips too
hehe, as you can tell, I love custom bonnets Nice Job. Lets hope all the underside reinforcing is there or you have an engineers certification for it or Mr Plod will chase you down like he did me
Good eye i guess Just ran a string line down and just used the lines of the car to get them right. Thanks heaps for the comments so far.
nice, really top work.... hope it doesnt crack again........ now maybe some mags to set the whole thing of?
WOW ..!!! that IS something else .. brilliant concept .. and well executed .. i definitely am a fan of that .. and 110 points for creativity .. top stuff ... edit: .. so now we have "the echuca express: to go with the "colac kid" ..lol...!!!
Ok Im gonna get called an ******* again but I LOVED the xb bonnets Ie;on mad maxs gt creation the interceptor.. But not on a Z. I like to think of the Z of a modern sports car not associated with aussie muscle cars.(Each have their own aspects and I love them both) I admit I think its awesome that you are being creative but its sorta like putting 1970 trans am flutes on a supra aint it? Nah sorry..in fact i hate most things done to a Z thatll destroy its classic lines and I think that other people are just being nice or they didnt grow up when there were heaps of hot XB's going around. They did actually get the idea off the mach 1 mustang of around the same generation.
your druggy arent ya..... you want the biggest nostrils you can get for all that crack huh.. hahaha.. looking good man i like it...
Willo, Am interested in your front bar. Is it the 200 spec bar? Who supplied it? Did any of your original lights fit it? regards Terry
Need for speed underground called.....they want their hood back! haha Looks nice dude, very different. Maybe josh will bug you about copying yours now!!!
Just a thought Can you cover the finished product in plaster and make a 100% fiberglass version? Then you can sell you own design. I would be the first person to buy it as I actualy was thinking of doing it with a monaro hood.
