Recently i blew the bearings in passenger side GT2860 running 25psi I was hoping to get to 30psi but the twin gt2860 setup started losing boost anywhere higher than 25 Question 1- Do our engine bays allow for twin GTX2967 setup? Bit of a 2nd question here as well- should i delete the oil restrictions on 2nd attempt? I still don't know the cause of the bearing failure so any thoughts are welcome New motor, forged, big cams, headwork etc- everything was new except the turbos Are we supposed to do anything with the vg motor to stop bearing failure?
The housing seals will probably leak if you remove the restrictors, imagine how pissed you'd be if they leaked after everything was up and running.
Thanks Chrispy, beaver and magic Mike I shall look into getting diameter of the front housings but sounds promising At 1st glance
I have a pair of GTX 2863R 0.64 A/R for sale if interested. Never used with ceramic coating of exhaust housing plus Forge actuators. Purchased from GCG Turbochargers - not Chinese copies. No longer required. Selling $4,000. (fixed price - no offers) with collection or postage paid by buyer. PM me if interested
The gtx2967 (if genuine housings) will not fit without modification. The us guys using them (not sure I can think of any off top of head though) have ash or msp/custom manifolds. The gtx2863 listed above- will flow 36psi if you can keep the gates closed and generate over 500rwkw worth.
Thanks ProckyZ89 For those that are following this thread, I found a Turbo place in Molendainar (Gold Coast) that machines turbos to custom specs. I think they call this high flow. There is 2 cold side housings available in the 2860's Apparently i have the larger ones...winning They are going to machine out my turbos and make them into a GTX2971 so i have no fitment issues (Current setup is with AMS manifolds with bellmouth dumps) We worked through the maps and ended up with 2 choices- GTX2963 (if i wanted to run them hard) or GTX2971 (if i wanted longer life out of them) Looking forward to testing the maths It looks like about 4300rpm for full boost at 40psi to 7,000rpm
I'll share the results fella's Should be a few weeks before done, then the waiting game again to dyno day
More info... 2860s were bored to 2971 on the front and rear housings through the turbo specialist If I was to go 3071, that's when outside dimensions would've been larger From what I've seen so far, 3071 would be wasted. At least on my build anyway I'm in the middle of head gasket issue but the dyno was was promising... 20psi- 420kw 22psi- 460kw 24psi- 500kw before coolant issue Turbos and air temps still weren't showing any signs of struggle
