Gidday Guys... Recently had oil in my coolant and after having the heads machined as the likely suspect I find that it's still occurring, plus the valve train at the rear is starting to sound like a diesel engine. Was talking to my mechanic and he's thinking the block probably has a crack in it and (it's been flushed 3 times now since the heads have been done) if so then I may be looking at a rebuild but I reckon an LS1 swap over would be more fun! lol... So, having no experience at all in this, apart from an LS1 wiring loom and this kit https://conceptzperformance.com/loj...e-swap-kit-90-96-z32-loj-z32ls-kt_p_25638.php ...plus an engine of course and the necessary trimming of the firewall, is there anything else I am likely to need or be aware of. It will likely need an Engineers certificate after it's done. Any advise from you Guru's who have been there and done this would be greastly appreciated! Cheers!
Karl's LS conversion has been put on hold. Far too many sick Z's (and others) showing up needing help consuming all my spare time.
Any reason your choosing an LS engine 6 Generations behind current? I would have thought if your going through the headache you'd use a more current motor. Like an LS7...
Delete the word likely and that sentence will be correct. I gave serious consideration to this until unemployment and a few other factors intervened. Much different plans in place now! Refer to this link for some guidelines on the VASS rules. Note that even if you use a low 1450kg as your vehicle weight, in N/A form any engine from LS1 to LS7 could be used - 5x factor would give you 7250cc allowance. Also, good to see that the CZP kit does have an RHD option. When I looked at this exercise, biggest factor against an LS7 was purely and simply the cost. Isn't the LS1 smaller and lighter than our DETT's and can easily be modified for more power? Plus I really think you can't beat a V8 sound!
The biggest thing you will face with an engine swap is the time it can take! Talk to an engineer first! If the engineer doesn't like the kit's fabrication, it will not be allowed on the street. If the car is a manual, the stock clutch master cylinder will hit the left rocker cover so you will have to relocate it or go with an auto. If the t56 or 4L60E is used, the transmission tunnel will have to be modified/hammered. Because of this, the heater core box's ducting to the feet will need to be modified or deleted. The heater core's inlet/outlets will also foul on the block and will need re-plumbing if kept. The kit would be great if it is for RHD cars however, keep in mind, there is very little room for the exhaust because of the starter motor and the steering shaft. It could potentially foul and would have to be re-fabricated. There are also little things like a VATS delete from the ecu that will add up.
Thanks very much for all your input guys! I'm starting to think I will just save up and buy another Zed. I see FL4SH is for sale at the moment ...Hmmmmmm! Decisions, decisions.... The thing about going down the LS1 swap path was the payments would be sort of progressive as apposed to one large layout, but when I think of the other Issues that need fixing on my car as well then it's starting to look like buying again is a better option. Might be time to see what all you TT boys are raving about!
