Damn all my good work, pulled the surge tank from the engine bay that i put so much time into, made a new one and fitted it under the car. Wasn't real happy with having it in the engine bay due to having 4 litres of fuel sitting on top of the turbo, recipe for disaster with a fuel leak. Also it was getting to hot in the engine bay with heat soak etc, so bit the bullet and put a new one under the car in the air flow to keep it cool. Just need to bandage the exhaust pipe, make a shroud between the exhaust pipe and the tank to finish it off. Thanks to UAS for the use of their hoist and their tech Dave for his sweet ally welding. What used to be Dave welding new custom 2.6 litre tank Bolted in situ Damn these speed flow fittings ar expensive Braided fuel lines all hooked up
No closer Than any of the exhaust systems that run past the fuel tanks on the Zeds. As i said, by the time i bandage the exhaust, affix some heat reflective material to the end of the tank and put a guard between the pipe and the tank there wont be any transfer oh heat.
2 parts of F/all really Byron, when you consider this is done purely to reduce the amount of fuel needed to be carried at the track due to fuel surge. The saving of carrying 30 litres will be more than offset.
Is that towards the rear of the car Ron...? I thought surge tanks are meant to be up front like your originally was.
Dosen't matter Where they are Matt, as they have the extra pump to pump the fuel to the engine. As Adamness says most get put in the boot for convenience, but as the Zed dosent have a boot it would be in the car with you which would present a safety factor of fumes, petrol smell, noise etc. Mine is now under the rear passenger seat (2+2)
