really plugs take an hour? with plenum on should take 30 minutes max... its a workshop. with plenum off (shown in quote) 10 minutes while holding a beer in the other hand. so working off that logic. 350-180= 170 170*6 = 1020 per hour! and where do you guys get a full set of plugs for 120 from? their retail price is 30 each so your saying you can get a set of 6 platnum/iridiums for $60? ($10 each?)
This +1 This +1 Expensive to own a zed sometimes but I also agree with yes there is value in buying a complete Z in good nick really cheap to start with - and before the critters jump in with prices on Z's - I bought my TT in good condition for just over 4K !- so it can be done if you hunt and look around for the right one! :zlove:
Anybody who tells you that a 100k service is required to change your water pump should be steered well clear of. Although the car is probably due for 1, there are also a LOT of overlapping works in the pricing. Doing a rough pricing on what is listed (part wise, and then some), materials come to a total of AUS$1970.46 +freight (thru Coz). No doubt some parts have been missed (fluids, oil filter), but covered are:- *A/T Filter $28.24 *A/T Gasket $15.26 *200K Service Kit $600.00 *Upper Plenum Gasket $10.00 *Balance Pipe O-Rings $19.38 *Spark Plugs $62.30 *F&R KYB Shocks $250.00 *Intake Cam Gaskets $36.00 *Exhaust Cam 1/2 Moons $20 *Radiator $130.00 *Radiator Hose Upper $45.00 *Radiator Hose Lower $38.74 *Heater Core Hoses $22.16 *Clutch Fan $227.66 *Outer Tie Rods $162.00 *P/S HP Hose $130.00 *P/S Suction Hose $31.00 *P/S Return Hose $22.00 All of these prices are US$ and OEM. Naturally, you will be able to source some cheaper alternatives locally, and your quote probably doesn't allow for all of these parts. As for labour costs, I've NFI, as I'm DIY. As far as time goes, I'd allow- * 2 solid days * 1 carton of Bundy Reds * 1.5 Packs of Benson and Hedges * 6 Dare Double Espressos (large, not the pansy small bottles) * 1 bar of Dove Soap. Also to consider that any TT under $5000 will probably need most, if not all and more, of these parts. ....... welcome to the world of Z's
but in their quote they sent it said so no you dont budget an hour for labour if you have STATED that you are doing it while everything is off to save costs. like i said.. 10 minutes with a beer in one hand and a spark plug wrench in the other hand.
I suspect they quoted the job, and suggested that it would be cheaper if done with other items. That's the way I read it anyway.
Then you had to have ferrari tail lights, rocket mirrors and tub hatch and replace all to avoid any humiliation. Rofl
I buy my plugs here http://conceptzperformance.com/Cart...ar_Type=300&UID=20140415032555112.213.193.150 I also used 1 hour blocks for time. most workshops have minmum 1 hr charge for individual jobs.. They wil charge for 1 hour block even if it takes them 30min. But you are right. the plenum is off, they shoudnt REALLY charge a labour cost there. Its all part of the job. They should really have given a quote for the lot. Not broken it down like that.
Come on that quote could not be justified to change the plugs. If I rushed it would take 1 minute a plug so that's 6 minutes work . If I had a few whiskeys and a piss it would take 30 minutes  so a fair time span staying of the grog and checking a few things along the way would be a 15 - 20 minute job and a set of copper plugs say around $60 - $70 is a long way short of their quote. I got a few quotes to do a head gasket on my Xtrail a month ago because I was to busy to do it myself. The quotes ranged from a firm $1500 by a bloke that said he had done a few and the gaskets are a common problem to up to $4500 for a job that was a major problem and would need a new head for sure. I wonder who will get the job. You really need a second opinion on your quotes or you will be righting of a car that could be repaired quite reasonably . Cheers Dave
For the plugs, if they go through Nissan Australia which is pretty reasonable for a workshop that doesn't specialise in Zs, it would be plugs for $210 plus minimum labour charge which isn't really the shops fault. Wanting to rebuild the engine to fix a few oil leaks may be overkill though
I actually got onto him through a fellow forumite when i bought my Zed a few years ago. I was chasing electrical connectors and he was great in getting them at a very good price. Found him easy to talk to and not full of crap. A young bloke at work was having trouble with his holden adventure a month ago i hooked it up to my ob2 scanner on my lap top for him. All up it took 5 mins to scan while talking. Afterwards he took it to the mechanic he has been using and the bloke had it for 3 weeks and rings him to pick it up finally. When he gets there the bloke hits him with nearly $3000 of work . Amongst the bill is hidden a $80 fee for ob2 scanning. W.T.F to me it was a good give away the bloke is a thief. I would love to be able to pay some one to work on my cars but you just get the feeling you are getting bent over. Cheers Dave
havent read whole thread but i reckon people shouldnt buy these cars unless they can do the majority of the work themselves or by friends. you simply cannot justify paying shops to do the work especially on sub 5k value models.
Have you got PZP to quote on the work? As said above seems they have overlapped on a lot of the work. Also I find a lot of businesses will quote high on doing work like this as they don't understand the scope involved.
Number 1 message I get out of this thread is to not take anything to Tokyo Motorsports! Number 2 message is to continue with my current plan of doing everything myself (where possible)
Pzp would pprobably quote the same... if you want a REAL world quoted price shoot me a message and I can do the work a shitload cheaper than that
I used to pay $13 each for iridiums from Bursons. IMO I would buy Platinum plugs before Iridium plugs everytime. Ebay is cheap for plugs BTW
Do consider the time spent doing everything yourself could have been spent working overtime. Potential money down the drain either way you look at it really. Changing the oil and minor electrical stuff is about the extent of my present abilities and I daily my TT. I just work longer hours when I need something done on the zed. I know I'll never see financial return out of it nor can I see it being considered an asset of much value any time soon, but I don't intend on getting rid of it :zlove: booze, concerts, holidays, movies, zeds, it's all recreational expenditure.
