Hey guys I have decided to rebuild the spare engine I have it's from Dylan's old ride ( spun a bearing ) forged pistons and rods upgraded valves and ported heads T2860 turbos .72 rear housing Mapped apexi ecu 555 cc injectors The exact damage is unknown at this point , hoping the internals arnt to bad Going to rebuild the bottom end , service heads , replace all belts and gaskets , would anybody know what else I should do whilst the engine is out ? I would like to del as many things as possible that I don't need like ac system , some vacuum lines etc aiming for 450 to 500 hp with a tune and would like to get it right the first time
If you can afford it, I would be replacing the injectors with something a little larger... You can make good power with the 555's, how ever, you will start to max them around the 20psi mark. I know Trent (KawasakiRider) was running 22psi (360rwkw) on his with no problems though. From what I've heard, that motor was relatively new, so hopefully everything should still be alright. If you're lucky, it will just need new bearings - but no one is ever that lucky with zeds
555cc injectors will be tapping out around 400rwkw on 98RON. However if you still want to go E85, they will be MUCH too small.
If the oil pump is original then that would be a good item to replace. Under plenum bypass is another good job to get done and also EGR delete as both of these things gone make maintenance and repairs down the track a heck of a lot easier. Make sure you replace every water and vacuum hose while the engine is out as some of these are terrible to access when the engine is in situ. Detonation Sensor and sub harness is also something else that is impossible to do without removing the lower inlet plenum. As far as injectors go, the 555's will be OK for the power you are looking for unless you are going to run alcohol as previously stated by SRB-2NV. If you think they will be on the edge, its cheaper to add an adjustable fuel pressure regulator and set the base fuel pressure at 50-55PSI.
Spun bearing will almost certainly require the crank being ground and the offending rod closed and honed at least or replaced at worst. To be honest, if it were mine, Id be carefully measuring every rod for out of round of the pins and even consider closing and honing all rods together for piece of mind.Meaning removing all pistons, close and hone rebalancing rods and reassembly. Then again, a set of Spool/Eagle/scat Chro-Mo H-beams is so cheap now, barely $100 each, might just be worth replacing altogether. Thats just me tho. So, if you are going to do it right, aim to cover labour to R&R pistons, close/hone-replace rods, grind crank and full balance in your estimations. If your a tightarse, then just chuck another old rod at it and linish the crank by hand!!!! Itl'll live! E
Replace or service everything that is difficult to do when the engine is in. suggest you HPC coat everything that emits heat whilst out so as to reduce engine bay heat radiation . Think out side just doing the engine what can you do easily whilst it is out, Clutch? Dump pipes, steering etc. Make it a major overhaul it will save time down the track
Thanks for the replies I thought I read some were 1cc would max out at 1 hp so 555 cc injectors should max at 555hp , I'm going to use a adjustable fuel reg as well I would like to go e85 still thinking about it What can the stock gearbox handle ? Stock brakes ? Clutch? Were can you buy a aftermarket oil pump ?
For standard PULP 98 555's should be fine. If you wanna run E85 though you'll need a lot bigger. Generally E85 requires about 30% more fuel.
Update Damage to the motor as follows One bent rod Two bearings spun Damage to the crank Anybody know were I can source parts ? Also anything else to check? Confirmed upgrades to the motor Upgraded valve springs Ported head T28 .71 turbo Forged pistons Looking to convert to e85 as well Wanted parts 1000cc injectors 360 degree fuel rails Stock tt crank Race bearings Race rods Gasket kit
You better off just buying tektrader s built engine he has for sale http://www.aus300zx.com/forum/showthread.php?t=325344
