g'day all i'm looking at buying a 1990 Z32 interstate (sa to wa) and then driving it back from adelaide to perth. i've got a few questions regarding this. firstly, can anyone recommend a pre-purchase inspection service? the only one i can find that looks legit is the RAA one. secondly, can anyone recommend a transport company that is going to be cheaper (and safer for the car) than me flying over and driving the car back? the cheapest quite i've gotten is $1700, whereas it'd cost me about $1000 to drive. thirdly, if i do decide to drive what are the chances of the car surviving a 2600km nullarbor crossing? any help would be greatly appreciated. cheers, Matt
If you are not a SA resident then you cannot transfer the SA registration into your name. You will need to look into how you can legally drive and insure the car for the trip back to Perth. You will also need to talk to you insurance company to sort out how to get insurance cover for the trip. You can get a 48 hr temporary movement permit in WA which is also valid in SA, this may be one way of handling the registration issue.
ACR transport Team in Adelaide organised everything for me from Sydney to Perth cost about $1700 & that price was with a $500 hoist lift truck because low car, without $1200, so you should get a good deal through them. Patrick Auto care was the transport used. Ph ACR Transport 08 8395 0966. They can organise any car transport from anywhere in OZ.
I bought mine interstate from sa, a fair while back now though. I had it inspected by Morpowa in Adelaide who a lot of the local guys where using for servicing at the time. Maybe see who the locals are using at the moment so they know their way around a zed? Report was thorough though & had no issues / surprises.
Post a link of the zed and where it is. Adelaide z cars could look it over. Owner is Barry and he is thorough.
i had planned to have the seller leave it registered and insured in his name for the trip back. otherwise, the temporary movement permit would be the go. Didn't know it was valid in SA though. that will make things easier. i'll look into ACR, thanks. pretty sure driving it back would still be cheaper than any transport? could be wrong though. I'll contact these guys for a quote. Do they do mobile stuff? thier address is on the opposite side of the city to where the car is located, in golden grove. this is the car: http://www.carsales.com.au/private/details/Nissan-300ZX-1990/SSE-AD-2458073/?Cr=5&sdmvc=1 I've been waiting a while for the right Z to crop up, so i appreciate any and all help. cheers, Matt.
You had better be confident in the condition of the car before setting out across the Nullarbor. Should a problem arise, the $1700.00 quote is going to appear very attractive! Is it a vehicle from this forum?
There was a thread on here from a past member who did the trip in reverse. O'Conner television was 1 of his well-respected aliases. Suffice to say, it was a nightmare
I got my car from Tasmania to NSW for $1300. Have also done SA to NSW for $650. CEVA logistics My truck driver was even a zed owner :zlove: Edit: Adelaide Depot to Perth Depot is $900 http://www.cevacarcarrying.com.au/
no, it's on carsales. http://www.carsales.com.au/private/details/Nissan-300ZX-1990/SSE-AD-2458073/?Cr=5&sdmvc=1 anyway, a nullarbor crossing in an unknown car is a drawback. i'm not altogether keen on being stuck in the middle of nowhere with a blown bottom end. amen to that. i sort of estimate about $1000 total to drive it back, excluding flights. ^^^^ this. mate you're a legend. that's a fair whack under the $1700 i was expecting to pay. i might just go with theese guys. how capable are they of dealing with low cars? like, how much clearance do you need? cheers, Matt
Check the adventures and tribulations of ADZ 79 in his recent thread covering his drive from East to West ... enough to suggest that trucking is the only way to go.
try Try messaging Jamie (chilledpain) and ask him how, why and who. He has done this once or twice and may be able to help out with some info
What about putting it onto the train? Fly over and put yourself and the car on the train return trip. Or get the seller to put it on for you perhaps? Stu
It's quicker to just Fly in Fly out... Do a revs check online firstly. Draw a bank cheq on the agreed price. Talk to the transport team to pencil in a date for pick up. If the seller is helpful & legit you won't have a problem. Sign the change over papers & get a copy. Confirm transport pick up & fly home. Get the car home from Depot in Perth, Hand in plates, reg it, get new plates, Get car checked over at a compliance shop. Fix any problems & that's it. Fly in fly out can be done in a day.
have you considered this? http://www.greatsouthernrail.com.au/site/indian_pacific/taking_your_car.jsp Adelaide - Perth $949 I never really investigated it in too much detail though Might need to organise a permit to move when you get to WA though (?) Maybe not if its already Adelaide registered?
that may actually work out to be cheaper than getting the RAA in south australia to do an inspection. at least, it'll be close.... i'm pretty sure you have to accompany your car for motorail transport (i could be wrong though) and that's $500 for 3 days in a seat doing nothing. or 2.5k for 3 days in a cabin doing nothing.... calling the RAA to organise an inspection tomorrow. cheers, Matt
They reckon 100mm, but I was at 90 and no real problems Edit: Also, the car looks great man! Hopefully it all checks out Have you got a full list of mods?
