OK. I had an epiphany last week. I lost the keys to the Zed and realised I'm getting more pissed off with the old girl and I'm driving the Silvia more. It's not that I don't like Zeds anymore. Far from it. It's just that this example is getting very tired. It's been on a shed load of corporate track days, driven all around Victoria, etc etc. I definitely got my $8,000 (buy price + initial costs getting it on the road) worth of fun out of it. My plan is to part it out and donate 50% of whatever it makes to the fundraising we're all involved in. I don't have room to do it in my garage - I'll need a shed or workshop, preferably in the Melbourne metro area to do it. Happy to organise a tech day to do it too. My reason? I don't need the cash and after reading so much about the tragic circumstances of Eric's family, it's the least that I can do given that I've trolled this site and probably saved more than $5,000 doing lots of work myself. I was going to donate some coin on the Goldfields Run but alas the Zed sat in a parking lot, keyless. The car? Aus spec, manual, converted to twin turbo. What I need? A shed and someone who is willing to hold it there until the good bits are gone. Anything that is left will go to scrap metal. If I don't part it out? I'll offer it for sale in the For Sale section and still dontate 50%. Insert your words of wisdom...... here:
Dont strip it!!! Its a clean zed!!! Just put it up for sale & I'm sure somebody will buy it off you. Way too many nice zeds are getting stripped these days. I am more than happy to lend a hand if you do end up stripping & if you got 2k tails ill get them off you lol but i still dont think you should strip it Ask Aidan (DotDotDot) about the shop he rented to work on his zed... Abraham
Dont strip it dude... It sounds like a great idea, but once you start doing it, you'll realise how much time it takes and what a ball breaker it is. Plus, you have to find someones shed and tools to use, which means eventually, you'll start pissing them off too. Sell it as is, at a discount price if you really want to get rid of it asap... Up to, but I wouldnt waste my time stripping it.
As has been said, stripping a car is pretty tedious and a logistical nightmare if you don't have a good space to do it in.
Probably the rarest colour for an adm zed. I never even thought they came in black. Earlier ones didn't anyway.
Wisdom, no. Opinion, hell yes Cliff, it's way too good to part out. If you're determined to get rid of it, sell it as is. There are certainly cases where a Zed is worth more in parts than as a whole, but yours is not one of them by a long shot. As for donating half of the sale proceeds, if you sell it complete then you might be talking thousands in one go. I won't argue with a man who is out to be generous and kind, but I for one would not hold you to donating half of the sale price. Maybe pledge $1000 from the sale? That's more from one man than some of the fund raising cruises raised between 20 odd members. Just my worth, might be less depending on the stock market
