Meguiars All Wheels, (non acid) rated as safe for painted and factory clear coated wheels leaves a white residue all over the wheel after washing and wiping off, it takes forever to get the cleaner off. Is this the cleaner attacking the alloy? I'm thinking I'll just use car wash on them.

if its just brake dust then car wash with a sponge + tooth brush or something for the hard to reach places is all you need.

shouldnt leave them that long between cleans to really get it caked on that y ou need something tougher...

if you do, I find some of those oven cleaners that you spray on and leave for 5 mins work the best... they are designed to clean baked on caked on grease and grime after all!

Diluted kenco degreaser I always use it to remove road grime. It actually builds up a fair bit on my rear wheels due to the design of the wheel.

Interesting one things for sure "All Wheels" isn't so safe on my painted wheels. It's just brake dust but I'd have thought something marked as such would have been safe. Not so keen on any chemicals right now.

    autoglym i find works best.

i have used many different wheel cleaners and nothings beaten autoglym for me.
custom wheel cleaner - good for all wheels, acid free.
    http://www.autoglym.com/enau/product-proddetail.asp?v06VQ=JIL&Range=1

and if you got non painted wheels/alloys
clean wheels - high acid content. do 1 wheel at a time.. spray on brush in with a wheel brush and hose down. 1 WHEEL AT A TIME
    http://www.autoglym.com/enau/product-proddetail.asp?v06VQ=JGH&Range=1

if you try doing coated wheels or the other stuff you will get water marks/acid drips on the wheel is if your using clean wheels.. and good luck getting them out.

if your not sure what wheels you have play it safe and use custom wheel cleaner.

Not sure if its really safe but I use a el cheapo spay on bug and tar remover. 5 stars i think is the brand, spay on leave then wash and the wheels and exhaust are sparkling.

Once you get your wheels clean apply one or more (more is better) layers of Klasse All In One. It's an acrylic sealant that protects just about all surfaces. I even use it on all of my exterior glass. It will stop the brake dust sticking and make the wheels much easier to clean next time. Same goes for your cars paint. An application makes the car much easier to keep clean and will last for about six months.

    Cheers,
    Dave

I have been using Eagle 1 Wheel & Tyre Cleaner for the past 6yrs(one bottle lasted nearly 2yrs). It's easy to use, requires minimal scrubbing/brushing and it leaves wheels AND tyres completely spotless.:zlove:

I have been using whatever is in the bucket that I'm doing the rest of the car with. With a toilet brush and sponge. I refuse to invest in yet "another" cleaner when regular car wash detergent works just fine for the weekly washes.

Gotta keep em looking good. Your a married man Mike, so that understandable. Keeping my cars clean and shiny is the same as dressing well, and keeping fit. It's all part of the attraction process.

How long are you going to persist with this flawed reasoning, before you finally give-in to the realisation that it hasn't worked???:p:p:rofl::br:

The issue was the white stubborn film building up after washing the cleaner off, its labeled as safe for painted wheels and is their newest product but with my black painted wheels the resulting film is obvious.

No I get the issue mate, I just never have had an issue with regular auto detergent to clean wheels.

Get a cheapo toilet brush from the supermarket, makes cleaning the spokes sooo much easier.

I thought everyone washed their Z every week especially if you drive it each day. Maybe if it sits in the garage for weeks at a time then it might be OK to leave it a while longer, but then why would you own a dream like a Z and not drive it. It's like having chocolate and not eating it. Whats the point?
Seriously, not washing your car regularly is like not showering regularly. You may not notice or care but others do.
