Hi all, Well, I have just completed and engine pull and re-install which has been a great achievement for me! Now I am just trying to sort out the bugs now, any help would be greatly appreciated. First issue ? Car starts fine but is running rough, almost as if its running on 5 cylinders. So I will look at changing the coil packs, does this sound correct? Second issue ? I run the car for a bit, then when I turn the engine off, then is like a surge of coolant that comes out near the battery location. I am assuming I have not properly hooked up a coolant pipe or something. Just can really see where it is coming from. Any suggestions? Thanks Terry
Check all your connectors first, coilpack first, then injectors. Work out which cylinder is the culprit and figure it out from there. Probably just loose. try jacking up the car and looking from underneath for the leak with a torch. Did any hoses get replaced? Hopefully it's a loose clamp but if a plenum pull and bypass hasn't been done it could be one from the plethora under the plenum. I'd recommend a pull at this point.
as for running on 5.. i second this. check connectors and if need be, replace them. dont cheap out and replace one or two.. do the set.
From working on my zed, if you don't have datascan/software to plug in and tell you if you're getting a spark in each cyclinder, I think the tech guys here would be able to walk you through how to plug in a multimeter into each lead and check that way, and work your way up from cheapest issues first, like leads, plugs etc in ascending order. Something I've learnt from and won't do again =) When my zed was doing same, cyclinder 5 was not running as it should, engine was rough. We changed the leads as we tend to start with cheapest areas first and work up as most probably do. When that didn't help, we thought bugger, must be something little more complex and/or expensive. So we moved up the list checking each area to do with cyclinder performance etc, so like, leads, spark plugs, coil packs etc checking each out as we went. Can I say first time in all the cars we've work on and all the people we talked to that can honestly say, this was a first for us, we had an issue where we've actually bought a faulty lead. So initially the problem was a faulty lead on cyclinder 5. We bought 6 new leads and just happen to buy a faulty lead and worse still PUT in on cyclinder 5, what are the chances. After 2 weeks of weekends of scratching ours heads and thinking, how did we miss something, we figured we'd go back to the drawing board. We re-checked the new leads by swapping them around on to different cyclinders. When we noticed the engine running differently with the leads swapped around, it clicked that we must still have a faulty lead. What a total pain in the . . . It was a faulty lead all along and worse we replaced it with yet another faulty lead and wasted all that time chasing nothing. So I'd triple check the leads first =)-
there are a few coolant hoses that run to/from the passenger side turbo, near the battery......if you remove the battery, then youll be able to see the hoses, and hopefully whats leaking. start the car, remove battery while running (cover the terminals with rags) shut down car, find leak......hopefully lol
Don't run the car to see where the leak is coming from, this is never a good idea. Pressurise the cooling system with a hand pump and have a good look around with a UV torch for liquid that glows green.
Oh thats great guys, Will start with the leak I think. Cars jacked up and ready to start searching! Thanks for the input, will see how I go and let you know.
1/2 problem solved Well, I fixed the leak, a pipe near the Knock sensor had popped off. new clamp, hopefully fixes the problem. As for the rough running, need to get a data scan done. for a diagnosis.
