This would have to be my first post after being a member here for a few years lol. Just wanted to know if anyone had updated the interior on their 89-93 model Z32 with 95/96. I'm mainly wondering about the steering wheel with the airbag & if there was a dash with a passenger side bag that has also been installed on an older model? I'm looking into purchasing a zed hopefully in the future and was thinking of doing this depending on costs and availability etc.
the zed never came with a passenger air bag! If you wanted to convert your non air bag model to one with an air bag i think you'll find there is a lot more involved then just swapping the wheel, and you will need to install sensors and a whole lot of other things to make it functional
From http://consumerguideauto.howstuffworks.com/1990-to-1996-nissan-300zx-7.htm 1994 Nissan 300ZX: A passenger-side airbag joined the driver's airbag for 1994. New standard features included remote keyless entry for all models, and a power passenger seat for the convertible.
Only in lhd. Nissan never made a rhd dash that accomodated a passengers airbag. A later model interior can be retrofitted into a series 1 model and parts like seats, interior trim etc. will all fit (provided seatbelts are mounted on the body). Airbag steering wheel and cruise control can be fitted to an earlier model zed too, although the airbag will be non functional.
That's taken fom an American bulletin. American models and Australian/Japanese/European are all different. No rhd passenger airbag is actually one of the reasons a 2k spec zed can't be complianced in Australia. :zlove:
...amazing, you've put a lhd z32 passenger side airbag into a rhd Z - well let's see some pics - can't wait! You'll deadset be the only person on this planet to have done so!
I can make a conversion kit up if anybody is interested? Kit consists of one 2nd hand us spec passenger airbag*, a permanent marker to draw your guideline and a jigsaw to cut a hole in your dash. My exclusive kits are only available through aus300zx and boostcruising. Will also swap a kit for a fishtank (no more vl diffs please I already have enough). *Disclaimer: Airbag may not be a perfect fit depending on how poor your cutting skills are. Airbag will probably not deploy in an accident so don't count on it to save you or your loved one's life. Consider putting somebody you hate in the passenger seat just before you have an accident? Since airbags are second hand I cannot guarantee that they have not been previously deployed.
To answer your question without going though the argument.. I mean discussion. -yes you can fit later model trims into older models. -steering wheel will bolt straight in but will not deploy without installing sensors and wiring. -you can retrim your original panels by yourself in about 2 days and feel good about it. There is a forum member here who retrimed his old panels with suede and it looks like a late model car.. Mikez32 but the problem with that is his photos don't work anymore.. A lot of other members do it too..
He never said anything about LHD/RHD, and I never said I'd done some wacky conversion either You guys sure are touchy these days
I remember his pics and yep his interior looks awesome I think nissan got it pretty bang on with the colour scheme of the late model interiors so as long as you follow something along those lines it will look good. Just say NO to coloured vinyl and it'll look sweeeeet.
Cool, so sensors and wiring to make it shoot. Thanks aazn and quickzx. I do remember seeing what looked like a passenger side airbag on a zx a while ago. Must have been lhd. The "arguments" on here are mild compared to some other posts & forums iv'e been to, mainly commodore forums in the past . But some people just take their car knowledge seriously I guess .
