hey guys just wondering what my Z is worth. It is a 1990 2 seater manual targa top twin turbo with leather seats and has done 113,XXX K's I have owned this car for around 4 years and it wasnt used much as there was always some thing wrong with it, the engine let go due to a head gasket leaking and always causing it to over heat, the car is now fitted with a running NA motor, I would throw in the old motor with a sale, that also has a full 100K service kit on it thats 13 ks old This Z ows me nearly $40,000 and I literaly have nothing to show for it lol I have heaps of parts that arent on the car like CES dump pipes strut bars AMS high flow manifolds gauge housings gauges and the list goes on. The car is fitted witha full un painted urathane body kit, the sides and rears are genuine stillen and the front bar is a greddy copy also made out of urathane. Here is a list of most the modds but not all and some pics of the car And what it looks like now as I was planing to get it resprayed, all holes for stock spoiler antena and window wiper have been welded in. Feel free to bag my car and give me your honest opinions lol Do I sell it or just keep it for oneday when I cbf with it ever again ? Cheers Michael
U can do it.... Sell the mods, part the car either that or buy cheap oem parts from forum return to stock where possible and sell car as going concern. To be honest, if those doors are engineered and complied someone will want the body for that alone, it's a 2 seater which IMHO sell Better than 2+2. I would persevere with it but I'm a stubborn sob and wouldn't allow a 20 year old datsun get the best of me
If the car now is as in the last pic - probably wouldn't get a lot of interest... perhaps you might be better off parting it out together with selling all the other bits you have. Either way, that $40k looks long gone...
haha yes the 40k is gone alot of that was labour and getting ripped off by mechanics when I was 17 and didnt know much about cars. I would part it out as I have parted out a zx before but these days things sell for vurtualy nothing on this forum these days, I bet if I were to part it out I wouldent even get 3k. I dunno what to do with it, im over the z.
Part it out Thats exactly what I done, however my scenario is a little different to yours. I've parted out my zed for over a year now and if I was to sell it in 1 hit it would owe me far more. By selling it piece by piece you will certainly get more money and claw some of the cost back, of course you'll never get all of the 40k back. Its a matter of how long can u wait and can u store it somewhere for ages....
Your car is easily worth $5k in parts. As a whole car no one is going to pay that much for a sanded back TT converted to limp in NA. You need to decide does the car still mean anything to you. I had this EXACT problem 6 months ago. I was over the zed. It's just a car and I can't figure out why I wasted my money on it. Decided when I came back to aus I would get rid of it in parts or as a whole. When I did come back from Japan for 2 weeks, started her up, got a temporary permit to drive it around unregistered and boy did I fall back in love with it all over again. It's definitely not the fastest, nor best handling, nor best looking car out there... fact is it's not the best at anything really but it's mine. I put in the hard work on it and even if it stays parked for another 5 years, I'll fix her up eventually. All for that perfect weather day, targas off drive. Sure it's gonna be more money down the drain but I've come too far to just drop everything. Your case might be different since you have the MR2. For me, I can't see myself in any other open top. The zed's a keeper. When I come back it won't be my daily anymore. I'm getting a falcodore for that.
I have parted out a NA Z before that I wrote off and did well with it but back then people played alot more for parts, These days it seems no one wants to pay any more then $100 for pannels and suspension parts. It seems like the parting out way seems to be the only real way, kinda good that way so no one brings it back to life making me want it back lol. Thanks for the helpful reply cheets
Either keep it to finish it off with all your awesome extra bits to compliment it - then enjoy driving your stunning car for a long time, or part it out individually. If you sell it as-is, you won't get much for it, even though you and i know it's worth a lot due to all the un-finished parts there. Take that advice to the bank.
You are right the ZX is very nice but I think I amjust over them, I conciderd buying tektraders 300zx which imo is tuned simmilar to mine just alot better but it didnt realy appeal to me, the only zx ive ever liked is mine. yes I do have the MR2 but I am not atached to that and dont reali like that car much at all, I did buy a red TT 300zx which I had for a bit then sold it coz it was auto and pretty stock and didnt realy do it for me. I am left undecided what to do with this thing. Cheers
I know that feeling Mike. I was afraid that it just wouldn't live up to what I remembered after driving the Evo for the last year or so and was thinking that I would flog off the zed. But since I've had it on the road for the last 2 weeks I'm seriously considering selling the Evo and getting a sedate daily. The zed has a character which doesn't compare to much else I've driven :zlove: So yeah, keep it and finish it
Thanks benny good advise there as stated above by other members too, to part it out seems to be the best way to recoupe losses.
It's easy, if you have no attachments to it, part it. Cars are kinda like women don't ever get attached to one unless you plan on keeping her.
On the whole car, and that list stated above + instalation of things in the early days of owning the Z before I could do my own servicing, instaling of modds, engine pulls ect Most of the parts for this car I bought around 07 and back then there wasnt realy cheap stuff around things were alot more expecive in general back then and I didnt realy buy much stuff from the forum more for speed shops and places like Adelaide Z cars ect which were expenice as to what I look at what you can buy things for now, that front bar alone in urathane cost me $800 the intercooler kit about $600 the camber arms about $450 installed, stuff like that which you can get for a quater of the price. Cheers
I think thats whats happend im 22 now and bought it when I was about 17, its my 2nd ever zx and my first ever car was a NA 300zx silver to lol so maybe that has something to do with it. Im realy unsure I know thers no way in hell but if someone gave me 10k for it id sell it like that but when I think of 5k I think hmm just let it sit there, so im left undecided. All the new cars I have been looking at buying a european cars made in the last 8 years or so like mercs and bmw's, which I kno wont go as hard as a workd Z but I just like those type of cars these days that look nice and are flash.
Cheers Chris. It's strange, there are much better cars out there. Faster, easier to drive, cheaper to maintain. Yet a lot of them just doesn't feel special like the zed does. It's something I can't explain in words so I'm not going to try. She'll get done eventually, it was 90% done before I left. Then the NA engine started giving up the ghost so I was tossing up whether or not I can be stuffed swapping it. Might as well now that I've come this far.
Hmm its sat there for a few years guess it can sit there for more as its definently clear to me now im not going to realy get any more then 5k out of it and lets face it 5k in these times dosent get you jack. Thanks for sharing your experiences and out comes, appreciate it. Cheers
Hurry up and paint it. then it will be like getting a new car that drives better than 99% of the cars on the road.
