as on most zeds the fuel caps come out, i have a new one and wondering if anyone has done this before and is its a hard task?
What do you mean? The filler neck, or the cap that you take off once a week to put new fuel in? Filler neck is a compliance thing, so should have been done. Fuel cap should be fine as long as it has the rubber seal and the threadsa re the same. If you mean the FLAP, then there i just a single metal pin that you pop out.
Might depend on whether it is 2 seater, or 2+2. Would be pretty easy to do on 2+2 but then I've only replaced the fuel tank...
If the old neck insert has come loose, you can reseal it or replace it. Buy a pack of U-Nead-it from Bunnings(or your local Hardware store). You can use either the "metal" or the standard product, as both will work OK. Mix enough U-Nead-it so that you can roll it into a 5mm thick string/noodle and wrap it around the underside of the flange on the new filler neck insert. Press the insert all the way into the filler neck, so that the U-Nead-it is squashed evenly around the entire circumference of the flange/neck. Leave it to set before re-fitting the fuel cap(should outlast the life of the car).:zlove:
use sikaflex... same thing happend to me about a yr ago. they originally come sikaflexed in im pretty sure. dont overdo the sikaflex either its hardcore stuff once it sets so use just enough.
I usually think Sikaflex is the ant's pants anywhere around a "Zed fix", but several people have expressed concern over Petrol attacking Sikaflex over a period of time(don't know that this is accurate as I have never had a problem myself).
Well, I've been using Sikaflex in both cars. It seems to last 12-15 months and then it starts leaking. Then you pull the neck out, clean it up and seal it again Might try the Chili-Nead-It next time
