Maybe a repost but has anyone else seen this conversion project? Was wondering if the owner was on the forum as he is in QLD. http://300zxev.blogspot.com/ Cant see it catching on but interesting to follow.
i recall that plate ... but " 'oltimers " stops me right there ...!!! ..damn ..... ..pexipoo was hot on going electric 2 or so years ago ....
I think this guy will win the "engine bay with the least in it" award when finished. There is a guy in Aus with an electric car (datto 1600?) that runs pretty awsome 1/4 mile times, saw a doco on it a while back.
Don't think so mate, that engine bay is going to be pretty pack out with motor and battery packs. I've been following this for a while as it was posted on the forum a while back. Kudos to him...but I need the roar of combustion.
Just found the same site while searching for something else. Seems though that the blog hasn't been updated for a while. Wonder if he finished it all and on the road now? Seems damn close last Feb 2010. Be interesting to see how it goes - performance and range....
Using VERY old technology though. Brush less motors and lithium ion batteries etc make all his gear look like horse and cart stuff. Just take a look at RC cars and the advances they have developed with motors and batteries in the last ten years or so & this guy is using technology from 20 years ago. Heaps of effort and good on him for trying but talk about starting off on the wrong foot.
The wrong foot! certainly. But he put his foot wrong picking a Z32. It would be hard to imagine a bigger heavier SOB to try to do this to. Ridiculous choice for an electric car.
Well... after spending all that time & money - you sure WOULD want to save some money on fuel! Bet this dude doesn't have a girlfriend!
Do a youtube search for Plasmaboy or White Zombie. It'll give you a good idea what EVs can do. Big block V8s don't stand a chance.
It's pretty though :zlove:  So when he is on the side of the road out of charge it will look nice
