    My issue is this

On takeoff it is extremely laggy, revs sit at 3k and takes longer than normal to reach 50, it feels as though it's sitting on 2nd

I tested changing from drive to 2nd and 1st, when it's in 1st it won't move at all and just revs to 3k

So would this be my tranny needing replacement? Or another possible issue?

Sounds like it's in limp mode. Check that your AT-CONT fuse in the drivers side kick-panel isn't blown. Check out the tech section for the paperclip auto trans. diagnostic test as well.

Do a diagnostics but you will probably find it will come back fine. sounds like you have run low on tranny fluid and burnt out clutch packs. also check the auto loom behind hicas solinoids

I've had all my fluids replaced 2 months ago, but I'm taking it to a guy to look at tomorrow

Have you been flogging an auto... if so this is what it can lead to.
Unfortunate I know:( but 20 year old car can't take a beating for too long, somethings gotta give, too bad it sounds like it was your gearbox.

    P.s swap for a manual

Sounds like a frigged stall converter. Does it seem to run ok once going?

Once it gets above 50 it runs kind of normal, but still won't pass 3k
Revs, If it's in need of a new transmission I might be up shit creek cause no way I can afford the $2k-$3k to repair this

Just get a local auto gearbox. The pathfinder had a similar gearbox if i remember right :)
Should get away with it for cheep, and a bit more for the cost of installing the gearbox. Just do it before it blows up. I killed my auto box in the NA (now a manual), I got stranded and was up for the cost of multiple tows to get it fixed. The auto trans fluid was speckled silver too... so something let go in a big way :D

'88-'98 Y60 nissan GQ patrol or same vintage ford maverick auto boxes are the same, and probably cheaper. You should use a new filter kit for it, and new dexron2 fluid. If you can wait, I have a full unopened 5L bottle here left over from my auto daze (days)

well ill hold off on the auto box, cause my local guys seem to think these things are made out of solid gold or something... "yeah mate those cost about $800 second hand" i just laughed and walked out

im taking it to a mechanic friend of mine, and he will be checking fluids and all possible causes, so hopefully a good result this arvo

thanks for your help guys, ill let you know how it comes along

Not going to bother checking the ACU to see if it's showing any error codes then?
