    Hi All

I have now replaced the diff, replaced the tyres and had the rear left hand side bearing replaced inside the hub, I am still getting a humming noise from the rear left, can a hub issue cause this problem, when the car is up in the air there is no vibrations its only when I am on the road it appears.

    thanks

even got a camber kit put through the rear as well - thinking it might have been alignment

It's practically impossible to diagnose this without actually experiencing it.

Have you considered that it may be harmonics from your exhaust system?

could be a wheel bearing too. easy enough to check.

its defenitely not the exhaust causing the issue bud - its a loud whinning sound - bloody annoying - gets worse on acceleration - from the left - can a crook hub cause this? I think I might have clipped the left hand rear on a gutter at some stage that might have caused it to start - the wheels and tyres are all ok and have been checked cheers

Well firstly you described this as a "humming" sound.
Now you have changed that to a "whining" noise.
I'm not criticizing your question, but asking about a sound that you can hear(but we cannot)is sort of futile, particularly when we have almost no information to help us assess the problem.

IF you have changed the bearings in the LH-REAR Hub(and you have checked the wheel alignment)there is very little chance that the problem is coming from there.
There is however, a very good chance that the CV joints in the LH Axle/Driveshaft may be stuffed(given your admission re "clipping the gutter"). That shaft may also be slightly bent/misaligned.

You might be 'on the money' Byron.:p
"Humming" and "whining" are two terms that could easily be applied to the Fuel Pump.:)

increased noise with acceleration would also apply to the fuel pump.

Only other possibility is a short in your sound system, which i am sure you have turned off by now to figure out what the noise is, so i would doubt that.

thanks for all the responses guys - sorry its defenitely a humming (rumbling) sound that it coming from the rear left - or seems to be ,its not the fuel pump its a road sound - I have had the car at the z-shop and they cant figure it - maybe someone that lives close to Pascoe Vale can maybe check it out sometime for me? Could be shaft prob - but I am not an expert on these cars so I seem to be pushing shit up hill

I will return to my suggestion of a damaged LH Drive-shaft and/or CV joints(Drive-shaft/Axle NOT Tail-shaft).

Why not get a second opinion from someone like Joe @ Dontex?
